‘The Monkey’ Teaser: Theo James Is Covered in Blood in ‘Longlegs’ Director’s New Stephen King Adaptation

As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the labyrinth of horror films, I must say that the first teaser for “The Monkey” has piqued my interest like no other. The tantalizing glimpse into this chilling tale, reminiscent of Stephen King‘s dark and twisted imagination, is an enticing prelude to what promises to be a gripping horror experience.

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve just had the pleasure of laying my eyes on the tantalizing first glimpse into Osgood Perkins’ upcoming cinematic journey titled “The Monkey.” This intriguing production boasts an enticing cast, featuring Theo James and Elijah Wood. The teaser has sent a shiver down my spine, piquing my curiosity for what promises to be a chilling tale.

In a brief 44-second video, it’s shown that a toy monkey, acting aggressively as if it were a murderer, ends up soaked in blood. Baffled and appalled, James watches this unfold.

The short story titled “The Monkey”, modeled after Stephen King’s work of the same name, revolves around twin siblings Bill and Hall, portrayed by James in dual roles. They stumble upon their father’s ancient toy monkey while rummaging through their old family home’s attic. As a series of grisly murders ensue, they choose to discard the monkey and distance themselves from the past. Over time, they drift apart. However, when similar deaths start occurring once more, the brothers are compelled to reconnect and devise a plan to permanently eliminate the menacing monkey before it claims more lives.

James acts together with Wood, along with Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, young Canadian actor Christian Convery, Sarah Levy, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell.

Titled “The Monkey,” Perkins’ newest horror production comes hot on the heels of July’s release of “Longlegs” by Neon. This chilling detective slasher, featuring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe, has outperformed A24’s “Talk to Me” as the top-grossing independent horror film in North America.

In the realm of storytelling, I had the privilege of contributing to the scripting of a captivating production titled “The Monkey.” This film was brought to life by a team of visionary executives: Fred Berger, Ali Jazayeri, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Chris Ferguson, David Gendron, John Friedberg, and Peter Luo. In addition, Dave Caplan, Jason Cloth, and Michael Clear served as the producing trio. It was an honor to be part of such a dynamic team, working together to create something truly special.

James Wan, the mastermind behind “The Conjuring” universe and a partner in creating both “Saw” and “Insidious” series, will also serve as producer.

The movie was jointly produced by Atomic Monster, C2 Motion Picture Group, Black Bear International, Range Media Partners, and Stars Collective Films Entertainment Group. In the United States, it will be distributed by Neon.

“The Monkey” premieres in theaters Feb. 21, 2025.
