The Michael Jackson Biopic Will Probably Be Split in Two

Instead of having just one Michael Jackson biopic, we might be getting two, which is equivalent to nearly four “Bohemian Rhapsody” movies. The movie about Michael Jackson’s life, directed by Antoine Fuqua, could potentially follow the style of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” meaning its release date might get pushed back due to this split. As reported by Variety.

Since January, Michael has been in a state of uncertainty due to Puck’s report that the entire third act of the film needed to be rewritten and reshot. As Matt Belloni mentioned, the third act was initially centered around the Chandler family’s accusation of child molestation against Jackson in 1993. However, due to legal reasons, the Chandler family cannot be portrayed on screen at all as part of a settlement they signed in the ’90s. The Jackson estate is reportedly footing the bill for reshoots on the $155 million movie because of this.

Michael is set to be played by Jaafar Jackson, who is Jackson’s nephew. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will portray his parents in the movie. Miles Teller has been cast as John Branca, the lawyer for the Jackson estate. Other characters include Berry Gordy, founder of Motown (played by Larenz Tate), music executive Suzanne de Passe (portrayed by Laura Harrier), and Diana Ross (depicted by Kat Graham).
