As a seasoned film enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of cinema over the past few decades, I find myself utterly intrigued by the latest collaboration between Alice Rohrwacher and JR, titled “An Urban Allegory.” Having followed Rohrwacher’s career since her directorial debut, it is always a delight to see her innovative storytelling unfold on the big screen. The addition of Leos Carax and Lyna Khoudri to the cast only serves to heighten my anticipation for this film.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that the rights for “An Urban Allegory,” a captivating short film by the talented Italian director Alice Rohrwacher and French artist-director JR, have been secured by The Match Factory before its grand debut at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. I can hardly wait to see this masterpiece outside the competitive categories!
“In “An Urban Allegory,” Rohrwacher, recognized for his works like “La Chimera,” “Happy as Lazzaro” and “The Wonders,” teams up with JR once again. JR is known for projects such as “Faces Places,” “Women Are Heroes,” “Paper and Glue” and “Tehachapi.” This collaboration followed their joint debut of “Omelia Contadina” at the Venice Film Festival in 2020.”
The movie features Lyna Khoudri, a César Award winner for Most Promising Actress (“The French Dispatch,” “Papicha,” “The Blessed”), Leos Carax, a Palme D’Or winning director (“Annette,” “Holy Motors,” “Les Amants du Pont-Neuf”), and Naïm El Kaldaoui making his acting debut.
Based on a press release, the storyline is summarized as such: “In Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave,’ the philosophical question arises: If one of the prisoners could break free from their shackles and leave the cave, what if that escapee was a 7-year-old boy named Jay instead?”
“An Urban Allegory” is produced by Ad Vitam Films, in co-production with Social Animals.
The Match Factory has managed international sales for all of director Alice Rohrwacher’s feature films, including her first film “Corpo Celeste” (2011), followed by “The Wonders” (2014), “Happy as Lazzaro” (2018), “Futura” (2021), and most recently “La Chimera,” along with the short films “Four Roads” (2020) and “Omelia Contadina” (2020).
