As I sit here, listening to the heartfelt stories of these masked performers, I can’t help but feel inspired by their resilience and determination. The Wasp, with her touching tribute to her mother, reminds me so much of my own journey as a journalist.
SPOILER ALERT: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 6 of “The Masked Singer,” “60s Night,” which aired November 6 on Fox.
This season, recording artist Natalie Imbruglia (“Torn”) was a standout contestant on “The Masked Singer” – however, discussion about her performance has seemed to dwindle. To put it simply, things have slowed down for her. She’s in a bit of a tough spot… and unmasked as the famous figure beneath the Bluebell costume during Wednesday’s episode.
In this game, none of the panelists correctly guessed the answer. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it was Naomi Watts, Ken Jeong believed it was Rose Byrne, Robin Thicke named Isla Fisher, and Rita Ora said Kylie Minogue was the answer. However, they were all incorrect.
Tonight featured a double elimination round, and first to be revealed was Imbruglia as Bluebell. Following this, Goo and Wasp competed against each other to determine who would leave the competition next. They sang “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye together.
In the grand battle royale, Wasp emerged victorious, advancing to the quarterfinals. However, the “Ding Dong Keep It On Bell” was rung on Wednesday, a special privilege that saves a singer from elimination across all three groups this season. Consequently, Goo is now also safe and will join Wasp in the quarterfinals. At present, the lineup includes Buffalos, Wasp, and Goo.
Prior to pressing the buzzer, each participant made their last predictions for the mystery singer Goo: Rita Ora suggested Anthony Hamilton, Ken Jeong opted for Brian McKnight, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg went with Johnny Gill, and Robin Thicke assumed it was Leon Bridges.
This week’s episode featured Imbruglia singing “Do You Love Me” by The Contours. In her pre-recorded voiceover, she shared, “I enjoy dancing, singing, and expressing my creativity. There was a period when I had no inspiration at all. Despite being successful in my field, when things didn’t go my way, I questioned if anyone still cared for me. My creative well seemed dry, and it felt like I couldn’t string two words together. Nothing I tried to create seemed to grow. This writers’ block lasted for years. But everything changed when I became a mom. Suddenly, with a new perspective, inspiration returned in full force. Now, standing here, I feel like the belle of the ball. So, do you love me? I hope so, enough to help me reach the quarterfinals. Watch me now!
The event titled “60s Night” commenced with the performance of finalists Bluebell, Goo, and Wasp rendering “Fun, Fun, Fun,” a hit by the Beach Boys.
In “The Masked Singer” Season 12, Natalie Imbruglia was revealed as Bluebell, Laverne Cox as Chess Piece, Andy Richter as Dusty Bunny, Paula Cole as Ship, Marsai Martin as Woodpecker, Yvette Nicole Brown as Showbird, and John Elway as Leaf Sheep, unmasking the celebrities.
In the previous episode, Imbruglia sang Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and added this narration: “As a young sapling, I harbored dreams of becoming a star. I even jotted down all my aspirations without a doubt that they would come true. When I finally got my big break, I thought, what could possibly go awry? The answer was everything. My career withered, finances dwindled, and I found myself in a tight spot trying to make ends meet. But I never lost faith in myself. So, I nurtured a new ability, and before long, a fresh career blossomed. Now, I never pass up the chance to dance the night away. Because every life moment is wonderful.
For Season 12, the original hosts return, including Nick Cannon, joined by panelists such as Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke. Meanwhile, Ora continues her role at the desk for the second year in a row, stepping in for Nicole Scherzinger again this season.
Season 12 of ‘The Masked Singer’ has special episodes dedicated to various themes, such as celebrating Mattel’s Barbie on its 65th anniversary and the movie ‘Footloose’ on its 40th. Miley Cyrus will have an episode devoted to her music, and we have a new event called ‘Who Are You Fest,’ showcasing popular tunes from iconic festival lineups. Additionally, there will be episodes themed around sports, the 60s, and return of popular themes like ‘Soundtrack of My Life’ and ‘Thanksgiving Night.’
This new season will see clues cleverly hidden within costumes, music selections, and stage performances. Fifteen famous faces have been supported by a star-studded Masked Ambassador, comprising past participants like Dick Van Dyke (Season 9’s Gnome), Jewel (Season 6’s Queen of Hearts), Ne-yo (Season 10’s Cow), and DeMarcus Ware (Season 11’s Koala). The iconic “Ding Dong Keep It On” bell is making a comeback, but only one performer in the three final groups will earn the chance to continue their journey.
Season 12 introduces fifteen competitors, each dressed in unique outfits like “Ship,” “Leaf Sheep,” “Woodpecker,” “Chess Piece,” “Bluebell,” “Buffalo,” “Showbird,” “Dust Bunny,” “Goo,” and even “Strawberry Shortcake” among others.

I once had a big dream and managed to scrounge together enough money to survive for only one year to make it happen. I was living on borrowed time. With a dollar and a dream, I didn’t just sit back and relax. I worked tirelessly. And fortunately, it all paid off. That’s when I received a rare call that turned everything around. You know, this past year has been quite a rollercoaster. An exhilarating ride. And I feel like I’m still climbing towards greatness. Despite being at the pinnacle of my career, things took a turn for the worse and I began questioning whether there was anyone out there who still cared about me. My creativity seemed to vanish and it felt as though I couldn’t string two words together, let alone create something meaningful. None of my ideas seemed to take root. And that creative drought persisted for years. But everything changed when I became a mother. Suddenly, with a newfound perspective, inspiration flowed back into me like never before. Now standing here, I feel like the Bluebell at the ball. So, do you love me? I hope it’s enough to help me make it to the quarterfinals. Take a look at what I can do now!

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, qualifying for the Group B finals feels like donning superhero armor as a wasp. In my personal journey, there’s been one hero who stands out – my mother.
