A major change is coming the Clyburns’ way in The Madison season 2.
In addition to the success of the Yellowstone universe with new shows like Luke Grimes’ Marshals and the Dutton Ranch series starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, Taylor Sheridan launched a different kind of Western earlier this year. The Madison, led by Michelle Pfeiffer, stands apart from his other work; instead of focusing on land disputes and political intrigue, it tells the story of a family grappling with a devastating loss.
The story of the Clyburn family in The Madison begins with the shocking helicopter deaths of Preston (Kurt Russell) and Paul (Matthew Fox), leaving Stacy (Pfeiffer) and their family to navigate life in Montana. Like many shows created by Taylor Sheridan, it quickly became popular, and season two was filmed even before the show was officially renewed. However, Matthew Fox will not be returning as Paul when season two airs.
During an event promoting the show, Isaiah Fox told Gold Derby he’s thrilled about the future of Stacy and her family’s storyline. He also hinted that season 2 of The Madison will have a significant change from the first season. Here’s what he said:
“I think Season 2 is going to be a little bit lighter and more humor involved.”
Shortly after the first season of The Madison ended, Paul Wesley, who played Paul, announced he wouldn’t return for season two. He felt his character’s story had run its course. However, some viewers disagree, pointing out that the first season hinted at a deeper exploration of his grief following his wife’s death, which could have provided further storylines.
Many viewers are upset that Paul won’t be in season 2 of The Madison, especially since fans are eager to learn more about his character and his relationship with Preston. Now that season 3 is happening, there’s still hope that the actor might return. However, he won’t be involved in what’s shaping up to be a lighter season. Interestingly, filming for season 2 finished a while ago, so it’s possible the actor is aware of the storyline even without appearing on screen.
While season two of The Madison will be more lighthearted, it won’t stray from its core themes of grief and how people cope. The first season successfully mixed humor with the Clyburn family’s struggles, and finding moments of joy is a natural part of healing. It will be interesting to see how the show balances these elements in the new season.
