As a longtime fan with countless Middle-earth adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I witness the unveiling of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim! With Kenji Kamiyama at the helm and a star-studded cast that includes Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Miranda Otto, and more, this anime promises to be an epic spectacle.
183 years prior to the storyline of the original movie trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” marks the debut of the first anime in the series. This exciting new trailer offers a glimpse into the destiny of King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan, and how his daughter, Héra, led an extraordinary resistance against a lethal adversary.
As a long-time fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” I was thrilled to finally catch a glimpse of Héra in action, thanks to the trailer Warner Bros. released earlier this week. The tantalizing preview has only fueled my anticipation for the storyline and the mystery surrounding the rings’ whereabouts. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds! Check out the trailer below if you haven’t already!
Under the guidance of renowned anime director Kenji Kamiyama, this production boasts a talented voice cast. Brian Cox takes on the role of Helm Hammerhand, while Gaia Wise, known for “A Walk in the Woods,” portrays Héra. Luke Pasqualino from “Snowpiercer” stars as Wulf, and Miranda Otto reprises her character as Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, who narrates this captivating story.
Located beside Kamiyama, this film is produced by Philippa Boyens, an Academy Award winner known for her screenwriting work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. She teams up with Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou, who previously worked with Kamiyama on the Blade Runner: Black Lotus series. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh joined as executive producers in June, reassembling the team from the original movies.
First, viewers will have the opportunity to embark on Héra’s journey, but before that, Prime Video releases the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in September. Subsequently, in the following periods, Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis will make their return to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The upcoming film titled “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is scheduled for release on December 13th. Interestingly enough, it’s about the same time when the initial Lord of the Rings trilogy and subsequent Hobbit films hit cinemas in the past. This will mark a decade since a new Lord of the Rings movie graced the silver screen.
