‘The Lion King,’ ‘Aladdin’ Lyricist Tim Rice Returns to Animated Films With ‘Land of Sometimes’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Renowned lyricist Tim Rice, known for Disney hits such as “The Lion King” and “Aladdin,” is coming back to animated productions following a 25-year gap, collaborating on the animated movie “The Land of Sometimes” from Two Daughters Entertainment and Nottage Productions.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the exceptional artist who has earned the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) award – a title held by just 21 individuals – has agreed to compose three original songs for an upcoming animated film set to hit cinemas towards the end of 2025. This prolific talent has secured this elite status in entertainment through his diverse body of work, ranging from Broadway masterpieces to blockbuster hits produced by Disney.

This movie showcases an impressive ensemble of top-tier voice actors, including Ewan McGregor (from “Beauty and the Beast”), Helena Bonham Carter (“The Crown”), Alisha Weir (“Matilda: The Musical”), Jessica Henwick (“The Matrix Resurrections”), Asa Butterfield (“Sex Education”), as well as comedy legend Mel Brooks.

Under the direction of Leon Joosen (“Saving Santa”), this movie tells the story of twins Alfie and Elise who are whisked away to an enchanting island by the enigmatic Wish Collector. Here, they meet fantastical beings and come to understand the significance of family ties.

As a movie enthusiast, I found myself reminiscing about my favorite projects when I spoke about ‘The Land of Sometimes’. Its captivating narrative echoed some of the films I’ve had the pleasure of being part of. After quite a long hiatus, this gifted group of producers has enticed me to return to the big screen once more.

The project has formed alliances with Sony Music Masterworks for its soundtrack album and Universal Music Publishing Group for its songwriting collection.

James Reatchlous, head of Two Daughters Entertainment, expressed great optimism that ‘The Land of Sometimes’ will shine alongside the outstanding films Sir Tim’s music has enhanced. We feel incredibly privileged to have a legendary figure like him contributing to our film. His lyrics and melodies will undoubtedly add another layer of magic to our world, and I am certain these songs will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.

Experienced professionals Bonnie Arnold (“How to Train Your Dragon”) and Alan Yentob (“Billy Elliot”) take on the role of executive producers, with Reatchlous from Two Daughters, CEO Simon Bobin, and Spencer Pollard of Kaleidoscope Film Distribution also joining as producers. Kaleidoscope Film Distribution is responsible for managing international sales for this project.

Kaleidoscope will showcase new clips from the feature at the Cannes Film Market.
