As a seasoned Zelda enthusiast who has navigated through countless adventures across Hyrule, I must say that the recent news about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s development leaves me both intrigued and slightly amused by Nintendo’s penchant for secrecy.
Recently, Nintendo appears to be keeping quiet about who is behind the development of a game, such as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which releases next week. However, rumors are swirling that a well-known developer may be involved in the project.
Based on Eurogamer reports, it appears that Grezzo is likely the developer behind The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This was noticed by some who have pre-ordered the Switch exclusive game, like Naruki X. In the past, this studio has worked on other Zelda games such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Grezzo has also created games outside the Zelda series, including Ever Oasis on Nintendo 3DS and Jet Dragon on iOS devices.

On previous occasions, Nintendo has been secretive about the development teams behind some of its first-party games, such as Mario & Luigi: Brothership for Switch. Despite speculation, the studio responsible for this game’s creation remains undisclosed. The original team that created the RPG series was Alpha Dream, but they filed for bankruptcy in 2019 and subsequently closed down their operations.
Moreover, Nintendo remained secretive regarding the voice actor for Mario in the recent Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe last year, following the revelation that long-time voice artist Charles Martinet was not the one behind the character. Essentially, Nintendo asked fans to check the game’s credits once it became available.
On the official website, it’s clear that only Nintendo is listed as the publisher for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, with no credited developer mentioned yet. This Switch-exclusive title doesn’t release until September 26th, but there have been reports circulating about a leaked ROM version.
In their review of TopMob’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, they mentioned that it shares similarities with a smaller version of Breath of the Wild’s Tears of the Kingdom. Interestingly, this is the first main series game in the franchise where the princess takes the lead role; however, there’s speculation that Link might make an appearance at some point as well. Furthermore, the timeline of the Zelda series has become increasingly complex, and the upcoming release of Echoes of Wisdom doesn’t make it any less puzzling.
