‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Sets April Release Date on HBO

HBO’s “The Last of Us” Season 2 will release on April 13, the company announced Wednesday.

Following the narrative of PlayStation’s initial blockbuster game in Season 1, Season 2 delves into the storyline of “The Last of Us: Part II.” Similar to its sequel, Season 2 unfolds after a five-year time leap and focuses on a more hardened Joel and Ellie as they grapple with hordes of infected, zombie-like clickers.

For this new season, we’ve added several new faces to our cast: Kaitlyn Dever takes on the character Abby, Isabela Merced portrays Dina, Young Mazino joins as Jesse, Ariela Barer stars as Mel, Tati Gabrielle plays Nora, Spencer Lord steps into the role of Owen, and Danny Ramirez embodies Manny. Catherine O’Hara is set to appear in an unspecified part. Jeffrey Wright will once again portray Isaac, a formidable leader from “The Last of Us: Part II,” heading the Washington Liberation faction based in Seattle.

“Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, creators of the ‘The Last of Us’ video game series, are responsible for writing and overseeing production of the TV show. They have also taken on directing duties for some episodes and will continue to do so in Season 2.”

Mazin, in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, has shared that each of the seven episodes in Season 2 is intended to be substantial or “filling,” and he uses the term “high-calorie” to emphasize their richness.

Mazin compared each episode to a meal, suggesting it could be a simple dish or an extravagant feast at a 12-course French restaurant. With seven episodes in total, he described them as rich and substantial, packed with action, drama, and grandeur. Each one promises to be engaging and far from dull.
