A fortunate viewer got a sneak peek at the concluding chapter of The Last of Us Season 2 before Episode 7 prematurely appeared on Apple TV+, however, it seems that the finale may not be as favorable as initially anticipated.
Originally posted on Reddit but since removed, a user shared that an episode from Apple TV+’s Season Pass became available prematurely – Episode 7 to be precise. They confirmed they watched it and provided evidence (major spoiler alert). Following their disclosure of significant plot points, the post was inevitably taken down due to its spoilery nature.
There’s one big problem, though – the finale is only 49 minutes long.
The Last of Us S2 Episode 7 is one of the shortest
In this rendition, Episode 7 is the second briefest installment of the season, with a mere few minutes more than Episode 5, titled “Feel Her Love.” During that episode, Ellie pursues Nora relentlessly and delivers a brutal assault on her to extract information.
The speed or pace at which events unfold in Season 2 has been a commonly voiced concern, with just two outings of Ellie and Dina’s vengeful journey through Seattle to date. Interestingly, the forthcoming Seattle-set episodes will make up the briefest segment of the season.
After the emotional flashbacks in Episode 6, our story returns to Seattle, leaving us with barely an hour left in this season to tie up Ellie’s storyline. Unfortunately, we won’t see more of her journey until Season 3, which probably won’t begin filming until 2026. From here on, there are spoilers…
In the second half of the series, The Last of Us Season 3 is expected to primarily revolve around Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby. As suggested by Catherine O’Hara, we may delve deeper into Abby’s storyline than we did with Ellie. This could potentially mean that we will spend more time following Abby in Seattle compared to our previous exploration of the city.
In our upcoming time together, Ellie will only be with us for a short while before we meet her again in Season 3 – a reunion that may not take place until the year 2027.
Based on the showrunners’ statement that they can’t wrap up this narrative in a third season, we may not get much Ellie action in Season 3, but her character will be extensively developed in Season 4. On the positive side, Abby’s story promises to be intriguing and engaging in Season 3.
