If you’ve played The Last of Us Part 2, the events that unfolded weren’t unexpected. If your knowledge of the story is limited to the show, you might find it surprising, but even in its initial episode, Abby made a clear promise to take revenge on Joel by killing him slowly.

In Episode 2, the series vividly portrays Ellie’s vengeance. A heart-rending scene from the game is dramatically recreated, where Abby brutally stabs Joel with a broken golf club, leaving its sharp end lodged in his neck. As Abby and her companions depart, a devastated Ellie makes her way to Joel’s lifeless body.

Allow me to clarify, this pivotal event in Part 2 serves as the foundation for all subsequent events (and the show subtly primed us for this, so you should appreciate it). Regrettably, the sorrow over Joel’s departure (or, to be precise, Pedro Pascal’s character) is overwhelming for some viewers.

Joel’s death sparks The Last of Us exodus

Beyond simply expressing sorrow over Joel’s death in The Last of Us, some viewers feel as though the series has eliminated more than just a character – they have taken away their most beloved and exceptional character, the one they deeply connected with.

I find ‘The Last of Us’ disappointing. I don’t seem to connect with the characters, and it hasn’t been engaging enough for me to continue watching.

As a gamer, I find myself unable to proceed with the remaining episodes of The Last of Us Season 2. The main character, who seems to be an evil, bitter woman with a perpetual scowl on her face as she navigates a desolate post-apocalyptic world, no longer holds my interest. The idea of witnessing the survival and flourishing of Joel’s killer is not something I’m willing to invest my time in. I vehemently refuse such an offer. Simply put, it’s not worth it for me.

Since Joel has passed away in The Last of Us series, it seems unnecessary for me to continue watching Season 2. Unlike video games, a television show’s narrative should not eliminate the main reason viewers tune in. 👋

Also, don’t worry: Pedro Pascal isn’t leaving The Last of Us, even though Joel is really dead.
