In Episode 3 of The Last of Us Season 2, there was a subtle hint about Dina’s situation that might have gone unnoticed if you haven’t played the video games.
In the latest installment of “The Last of Us”, Ellie and Dina embark on a journey towards Seattle in search of Abby and her fellow members from the WLF (Wolfson Liberation Front).
Following a brief visit at Joel’s tombstone, they embark on their extended trek towards the city. En route, they unexpectedly encounter several deceased individuals – among them a young girl – which leads them to surmise that these are the very Seraphites we encountered earlier in this episode.
As a devoted fan, just catching a glimpse of those lifeless bodies left me reeling, with even my fellow enthusiast Dina looking queasy. But then, there was a twist that only true aficionados could appreciate – and I’m about to reveal it, so brace yourself for potential spoilers ahead.
The Last of Us Episode 3 just sneakily revealed Dina’s secret
There’s another reason Dina may have been sick: in the game, she’s pregnant.
Consider this: During their duty, Ellie and Dina have come across a variety of gruesome sights. In their initial assignment, they stumbled upon a skinned bear and the leftovers of some infected individuals. Yet, nothing seems to scare them when they’re out and active.
Is it accurate to say that Dina has never encountered a deceased body prior to this incident? Has she not had the experience of detecting decaying tissue? While finding a young girl deceased in the woods would undoubtedly be distressing, wouldn’t it be unusual for someone like Dina – a combat-hardened and shrewd young woman who grew up in a war-torn nation – to feel physically sick due to such an encounter?
She apologizes to Ellie, “I’m sorry, something like that has never occurred before. I believe it was the odor.” It appears Dina is deeply concerned about any harm coming to children, especially Abby.
If the television series aligns with The Last of Us Part 2 storyline, it’s expected that by the end of Season 2, Ellie will discover Dina is carrying Jesse’s child. It’s worth noting that this development won’t come as a shock, since Jesse is indeed the baby’s father. As for how this revelation might impact Ellie’s relationship with Dina and the unfolding events of Season 2, we’ll have to wait and see.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Isabela Merced (playing the role of Dina) hinted: “I believe there’s a more complex, perhaps darker aspect to Dina. Her humor seems to be a disguise for this hidden depth that will gradually emerge and be shown in moments where she shares her vulnerabilities with Ellie.
Indeed, it’s crucial to establish their relationship since it significantly shapes Dina’s character and the dynamic between her and Ellie, collectively known as “Dellie.” Given that viewers are encountering this duo for the first time, it’s essential to tread carefully and ensure the relationship feels genuine and organic.
Until the following week, delve deeper into Abby’s destiny within The Last of Us series, uncover essential facts about the WLF, and discover why Eugene takes on such significance during Season 2. Enjoy your exploration!
