The Last Of Us 3 Could Happen If The Story Is “Worthy” Enough

Since its premiere on HBO Max earlier this year, the second installment of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has garnered critical acclaim and sparked discussions about a potential third game. As the TV adaptation garners positive feedback, fans eagerly speculate if this could lead to another video game in the post-apocalyptic series. However, The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann expresses interest in revisiting the franchise only under specific circumstances.

As a dedicated fan, I can certainly appreciate the emphasis that Druckmann places on crafting a tale for The Last of Us trilogy that truly merits its place within this beloved series. This creator’s dedication to quality over quantity is evident in his artistic vision, a commitment that has been reflected in the other projects he has graced us with.

In an interview with Sacred Symbols, Druckmann expressed that as the caretaker of this franchise, which Sony has entrusted to him, he emphasizes quality above quantity. He doesn’t want to produce a large amount of content; instead, he aims to be meticulous about everything we create.

After performing in our show, we’ve joined forces with what feels like top-tier TV producers – HBO. We aim to create the finest adaptation of it. If given a chance to revisit this project, I want to ensure that the narrative matches the grandeur of The Last Of Us. I have an affinity for that universe and these characters. Given the right opportunity, I would seize it without hesitation.

As an ardent fan, I must say, so far, only two games have graced the world of The Last of Us series – both masterfully remastered, with the first game getting a remaster not just once, but twice! Unfortunately, a live-service spin-off game was in development before it met an unexpected halt, as Naughty Dog chose to concentrate on single-player games.

Currently, they’re engrossed in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and at least one other project. However, Neil Druckmann, the mastermind behind this epic saga, has hinted that he does have an idea for The Last of Us 3. He seems to feel there might be “one more chapter” left to unfold in this captivating story.

It’s true that he’s been confirmed to be working on a different Naughty Dog project beyond Intergalactic. However, he also shared that he’s assuming a more supervisory role in this new project, which gives him an opportunity to guide the team working on this enigmatic title.
