‘The Irrational’ Canceled After Two Seasons at NBC

“The Irrational” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, EbMaster has learned.

The TV series centered around police procedures first aired on NBC in 2023. Jesse L. Martin takes the lead role, with Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, Molly Kunz, and Arash DeMaxi also starring. This show is adapted from the book “Predictably Irrational” written by Dan Ariely.

The show centers around Dr. Alec Mercer, a globally recognized behavioral science professor, who applies his exceptional knowledge to complex cases involving governments, police departments, and corporations. His innovative perspective on human behavior propels him and his team through a sequence of thrilling, unforeseen adventures as they tackle illogical enigmas and baffling mysteries.

Arika Lisanne Mittman, Mark Goffman, Sam Baum, and David Frankel serve as executive producers. The production studio is Universal Television.

Initially, “The Irrational” was a hit with viewers during its debut season, garnering impressive ratings. However, it suffered significant drops in viewership, amounting to double-digit declines, during its second season. Moreover, NBC faced a challenging situation this year, as they had several shows teetering on the edge of cancellation due to their performance. This is because next season, NBC will be airing primetime NBA programming.

Previously, NBC has renewed series such as “Law & Order”, “Law & Order: SVU”, and the entire “One Chicago” collection. Additionally, comedies like “Happy’s Place” and “St. Denis Medical” have also been given another season, while “Night Court” and “Lopez vs. Lopez” have sadly been canceled. As for dramas like “The Hunting Party”, “Suits LA”, “Found”, and “Grosse Pointe Garden Society”, their fate for upcoming seasons is yet to be announced, with the decision expected during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York on May 12th.
