The Internet Reacts To PS5 Pro's $700 Price Tag

As a long-time gamer with decades of memories and countless hours spent on consoles, I must say I find myself rather disheartened by the announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The $700 price tag, coupled with the lack of inclusions such as a disc drive and vertical stand, feels like a slap in the face to dedicated fans who’ve been there through thick and thin.

Following much speculation over time, Sony has finally unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, with its release scheduled for just under two months from now. However, despite the mid-generation console’s impressive capabilities, there seems to be a rather lackluster response on social media regarding its $700 price point thus far.

As a gamer myself, I often find myself frustrated when it comes to the PS5 Pro. Unlike some other gaming consoles, it doesn’t seem to come equipped with a disc drive or even a vertical stand out of the box.

What offends me most about the PS5 Pro is the fact it has a premium price but doesn’t feel like a premium product.
For $700 the Disc Drive and Vertical Stand should be included.
It’s wild that this is where we’re at. Especially looking at the regional pricing.

For $700 you can’t even throw in the vertical stand? WTF? 😂

For supporters, it’s unfortunate that not all games will initially benefit from PS5 Pro upgrades.

Without a disc drive (a big warning sign), no vertical stand provided, four upgraded features but no new games revealed at a price of £700? It’s hard to see this as anything other than an attempt to reduce costs wherever possible while still charging the same price as if nothing had changed. It’s almost like a joke… not funny though!😂

To encourage people to purchase your newly launched console, it’s essential to introduce new games tailored exclusively for that console. This way, consumers will have compelling reasons to invest in the new console. After all, without a diverse library of exclusive games demonstrating the capabilities of the new console, spending $700 on the device might not seem as appealing compared to its predecessor or competing consoles.

Observe that they offer the CD/DVD drive as a separate purchase for systems priced at $700, seemingly assuming you have deep pockets. To add to that, it seems there are no included games.

It’s been pointed out that the cost of the PS4 Pro didn’t elicit as strong a reaction, and unlike the PS4 Pro, there was no absence of a disc drive.

The PS4 Pro wasn’t significantly superior, but the Digital Edition of the PS5 for $700 offers only a minor improvement in graphics and additional storage. If you factor in the cost of an extra drive, it almost reaches $800. It seems Sony might want to reconsider their pricing strategy.

One gamer brought up a nearly forgotten console from the ’90s that was also going for $700 at the time. It’s not adjusted for inflation, of course.

30 years ago, the 3DO company wanted consumers to purchase their console at a price of $700. Fast forward to today, Sony seems to be repeating this strategy with the PS4.

If favorable responses to the PS5 Pro’s $700 price point have not surfaced so far, they remain undiscovered. However, the true indication of whether gamers are ready to shell out that amount will be evident once we observe the number of PS5 Pro units sold when it releases on November 7.
