It’s possible that altering Snape’s race could transform James Potter’s early hostility towards him from typical schoolyard bullying to something more racially motivated. Throughout the books, Snape’s views can be seen as narrow-minded, as he both looks down upon and respects Harry’s mother Lily, who is a Mudblood (a derogatory term for a person of non-pure magical blood). Although race plays a role in the Harry Potter universe and the wizarding world, it remains unclear how it affects broader racial concepts. However, delving into these aspects could be interesting for the show. Instead, most Instagram comments are focusing on the significance of Snape being white. A few comments have also included the Brazilian flag, suggesting a potential Brazilian Snape, which is an intriguing idea.
Upcoming Harry Potter series is facing criticism due to J.K. Rowling’s ongoing comments against the transgender community, and the backlash against Essiedu isn’t helping either. If both fans who are turning away from Rowling and those who support her but prefer different casting decide to stop watching, who will remain as an audience?
