The First Look At Universal Studios’ Fast And Furious Roller Coaster Has Me More Excited For The Ride Than The Next Movie

Universal Studios Hollywood, frequently eclipsed by its larger counterpart in Orlando, is gearing up to make a significant impact with an innovative roller coaster. This new attraction, titled “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” is based on a popular franchise that has long awaited its own roller coaster experience. The ride is slated to debut next year, and after catching a sneak peek, I must admit, it’s generating more excitement for me than the upcoming Fast movie.

This morning, Universal Studios Hollywood has unveiled a fresh video showcasing preliminary visualizations of the Hollywood Drift experience. For enthusiasts of the Fast & Furious series, this sneak peek seems tailor-made for those eagerly anticipating the upcoming movie, and personally, I’d prefer to embark on this ride and experience the thrill of driving a quarter mile at a time rather than merely watching others enjoy it on a screen. Here’s the video:

Just as curious as anyone else to find out how the suspenseful finale of Fast X unfolds, yet with no clear timeline for the next movie’s production or release, I’m more than willing to settle for whatever tidbits come my way in the meantime.

As a cinephile and roller coaster enthusiast, Hollywood Drift spins me back to one of my most cherished recent thrill rides – Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disney World’s Epcot. Just like the independent rotation on that ride enhances the excitement, here it replicates the sensation of drifting. On the Guardians ride, the rotation guides your focus to immerse you in the unfolding narrative; similarly, Hollywood Drift does this by simulating the experience of drifting a car.

The video showcases an interpretation of the part of the ride I’ve always found most captivating since it was first whispered about – the inversion that transports riders above the escalators connecting the upper and lower lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. Essentially, this means that park visitors will enjoy a distinct perspective of the ride, while those on the ride will also experience the park from a novel angle.

Universal Studios Hollywood is set to introduce the first-ever outdoor roller coaster in its park: Hollywood Drift. The park, being next to a working movie studio, often faces challenges with outdoor attractions. However, this new coaster promises to leverage recent advancements in soundproofing technology. This innovation should minimize the noise from the ride, enabling peaceful coexistence between film sets and thrill-seekers enjoying the roller coaster.

Besides the released video, Universal Studios Hollywood also revealed one of the ride vehicles – a roller coaster modeled after Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger. The design appears spacious enough to accommodate the entire family.

It’s terrific news that the popular franchise “Fast & Furious” is now graced with an attraction fittingly named after it, as the sole Fast & Furious-themed experience at Universal Studios Hollywood, Fast & Furious: Supercharged, was less than impressive and part of the studio tour.

The release date for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift has not been set after 2026. However, it’s likely that the attraction will debut in late spring or early summer, which is when tourist seasons are at their peak. This puts us almost within a year of experiencing the ride. Given that we don’t know when the next Fast & Furious movie will arrive, this ride could serve as an exciting alternative for fans in the meantime.
