NEXON announced a new update for The First Descendant on June 18th that will include a collaboration with EVANGELION. The collaboration, running until July 30th, will feature characters Rei Ayanami, Asuka Shikinami Langley, and Mari Makinami Illustrious.
Throughout the event, players will be able to unlock and use cosmetic items inspired by the main characters, like their outfits, hairstyles, and makeup. There will also be special cosmetics themed around EVANGELION, including accessories, emotes, pins, and weapon designs. Players can earn unique rewards – such as custom name cards and photo frames – by completing missions, logging in daily, progressing research, defeating Wall Crashers, and exploring operation zones.
To mark the game’s second anniversary, NEXON is holding Descendant Fest 2026 on July 1st at 5:00 p.m. PT. During the event, they’ll share plans for the future of The First Descendant, including what players can expect in the coming months. NEXON also announced that Descendant Fest will feature new in-game events and a brand-new story trailer.
Fans can now watch a special 13-minute anime short celebrating the 30th anniversary of Evangelion. Originally shown at the “Evangelion:30+” event in February, the short features Asuka and imagines an alternate reality where she marries the main character, Shinji, and they have a daughter.
A new Evangelion anime is currently in production, envisioned as a fresh start for the popular series. Yoko Taro, famous for the NieR games, is heading the scriptwriting. Kazuya Tsurumaki and Tōko Yatabe are directing, and Keiichi Okabe, also known for his work on NieR, is composing the music. Studio Khara is the animation studio behind the project.
