The First Berserker: Khazan Nerfs Hardest Bosses In Patch

Today marks the release of the initial version of “Khazan” (March 27), and its creators have already made adjustments to soften two of the game’s most challenging bosses.

On the game’s main Reddit forum, developer Neople shared that they have implemented several updates, which they refer to as a balance adjustment patch released on the game’s launch day. Among these alterations, it appears the most significant adjustments concern the level of challenge for characters Viper and Maluca.

As a gamer, I’ve learned that the mastermind behind this game, Junho Lee, has decided to adjust the difficulty levels of the boss fights. He’s shared some insights on why these changes are happening and what we can expect in the upcoming updates.

You can read the explanation, in full, below.

Initially, Viper has been referred to as a “difficulty king” or “new player roadblock” by numerous gamers. Although there were multiple reasons for altering the game balance, our main focus was to increase the challenge level during the development process. However, we discovered that this made the game too tough for newcomers. Furthermore, the extended battle duration, while giving a strong feeling of achievement, raised questions about its suitability for players starting Mission 3 for the first time. Our answer was “no.” While many might have quit, your feedback has been priceless in helping us understand the challenge level. Some found Viper to be like a “final boss fight,” yet overcoming it brought a satisfying nostalgia, making them curious about what lies ahead if the third boss is this tough. The skill level needed to face Viper was substantially higher than the abilities players had built up until that point, and the lengthy engagement and harsh consequences of mistakes could have discouraged many from continuing, but you chose to share your thoughts with us. Once more, we’re grateful for your invaluable input.

Hey fellow gamers! As for Maluca in Khazan, I’ve been part of crafting an intriguing storyline that splits into two acts, with Maluca taking on the role of the first act’s boss. I know many of you have really relished this battle, finding it both tough and rewarding – but we also noticed it could be a real test of skills!

Now, while I can’t share specific numbers, let me tell you that we’ve seen newcomers to Khazan find Maluca to be more than twice as difficult as Rangkus, the previous boss and right-hand man of those troublesome bandits. So buckle up and get ready for a truly epic challenge!

Considering these aspects, we’ve eased up the challenge a bit in the primary game. Players will now find it easier to gain rewards swiftly via stamina-driven battles. Additionally, we’ve fine-tuned the system so that small errors don’t automatically result in defeat.

Although adjusting the toughness of the two bosses, Lee emphasizes that the fundamental aspects of challenge and achievement have been preserved within the team’s work. Moreover, he assures us that Viper and Mulca are still formidable adversaries, providing a substantial challenge compared to other creatures they might encounter.

The modifications made to the launch update also encompass tweaks to weapon skill balances across different types, enhancements given to specific bosses, and advantages for players opting for the easier game mode.

In conclusion, Lee mentioned briefly that we can anticipate new updates for the game as soon as the following week, given that certain aspects have required additional time for implementation. Additionally, he hinted at a free DLC content expansion set to debut in May.
