The First Berserker: Khazan Is Getting the Lies of P Treatment, but Difficulty Gatekeepers Won’t Be Disappointed

The game “The First Berserker: Khazan” is set to receive another update post-launch, and there’s plenty of exciting news! Developer Neople has shared plans for significant adjustments to the game’s difficulty level, aiming to create a more relaxed and narrative-focused experience for players who prefer a less challenging gaming journey.

However, hold your horses, as a fresh Hardcore difficulty setting is on the horizon, catering to those who thrive on tough challenges. With the latest expansion for Lies of P and this update, it appears that both games recognize the high level of challenge they offer.

The First Berserker: Khazan is getting a big quality-of-life update soon

Ever since its release on March 27, 2025, “The First Berserker: Khazan” has garnered much acclaim for its action and combat design, often being likened to games such as “Sekiro” and “Nioh“. However, due to the Soulslike elements it incorporates, many find it challenging for an average gamer. But fear not, that difficulty is a thing of the past.

Regarding updates, Neople introduced the first one in May, followed by boss rush modes and customization enhancements. However, it’s the latest June update that introduces significant alterations to the game’s difficulty system. Interestingly, Lies of P has also recently launched a DLC that adjusts its own difficulty level. It appears that both developers have recognized the challenging nature of their games.

As a gamer, I’m excited about the upcoming changes in the game’s difficulty settings! The ‘Easy Mode’ from before is now rebranded as ‘Normal,’ which will serve as the standard experience for most players. Previously challenging ‘Normal’ has been elevated to ‘Challenge Mode.’ This adjustment reflects our initial feedback, as many players found the original Normal mode quite tough at launch.

Additionally, under the revised standard, a fresh challenge titled ‘Beginner’ is being introduced. As stated on Steam’s update page, this new setting offers additional amenities designed to aid novice players of action games in grasping Khazan’s combat system more easily and with less pressure.

It’s not just about making the game easy

Khazan”, it’s not just about making the game simple for those who wish to easily follow the storyline. Neople has also introduced a Hardcore mode, which becomes accessible only after completing a playthrough on Challenge difficulty.

In games similar to this one, the Hardcore difficulty level removes essential user interface elements such as enemy health and stamina displays, disables crucial features like Spirit of Advocacy and Phantom Form, and limits camera movement. Furthermore, once you opt for it, you can’t alter the setting during gameplay, so make your decision thoughtfully.

Beyond adjusting the challenge level, the June update brings numerous improvements to enhance overall gameplay smoothness. Novice players will now find it simpler to grasp the game’s fighting mechanics thanks to the addition of combo tutorials. Additionally, a new Combo section within the in-game Encyclopedia will provide us all with comprehensive information.

Moreover, there’s a significant enhancement in inventory management. Now, you can organize items alphabetically by name, and the storage capacity has been increased from 100 to 500 slots. Furthermore, we’re introducing preset systems for skills and equipment, allowing for seamless switching between builds.

It appears that the team behind Neople is dedicated to providing solid post-release support for their game, so far. That’s wonderful to observe. By the way, have you given “The First Berserker: Khazan” a try?
