Players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered for PC have encountered issues following an unexpected update released today, however, Bethesda assures that a resolution is imminent.
This morning, players discovered that Virtuos’ extensive remake received an unanticipated upgrade. No patch notes or explicit explanation of what the update focused on were available, so most continued with their gaming routines as usual. Nevertheless, some swiftly identified that the initial Oblivion Remastered update was causing more issues than it resolved.
Why on earth is Virtuos Games releasing an update for Oblivion Remastered that takes away the upscaling features just before its first weekend? There’s no DLSS, no FSR… Performance is now unplayable!

One Reddit user noted that they can’t alter the upscaling settings anymore since they’ve been set to ‘off’. Even though the arrows are clickable, nothing happens when clicked. After closing the game, they turned off fluid motion in the Nvidia app (as they were testing something before the update), but upon reopening the game, loading times for their save are prolonged and the upscaling settings remain unchangeable.
“Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D”
Some gamers aren’t experiencing significant differences in gameplay, but others are encountering fresh challenges due to lower frame rates. Additionally, it has been pointed out that adjustment options for upscaling have become unavailable, causing visual problems for fans as they prepare for the initial weekend of Oblivion Remastered’s release.
Bethesda recently made an effort to address concerns by posting an update on its official help platform. The update for Oblivion Remastered aimed at making improvements, but as per the post, it consisted mainly of minor adjustments behind the scenes with no immediate effects on gameplay. However, players who purchased Oblivion Remastered via the Microsoft Store are encountering issues related to upscaling and anti-aliasing settings.
Bethesda explained that any graphic settings adjusted before the Microsoft Store update are still active and working fine. For now, you won’t be able to make further adjustments because of an issue with the user interface. The team is investigating and working on a solution. We’ll provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
Currently, we don’t have a specific date as to when the fix for the initially unnoticed update will be rolled out. For the time being, it seems that gamers using PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles can carry on playing without encountering any problems.
