We’re getting a lot of video game movie news lately, but this recent announcement actually has me looking forward to it.
The critically acclaimed 2022 video game Elden Ring is officially becoming a movie! Production, led by A24 Productions and director Alex Garland, is starting soon, with a planned release date of March 3, 2028.

And get this – Bandai Namco just dropped the actor list, and I’m seeing some faces I definitely recognize! It’s awesome – they’re going to really bring these characters to life, I can tell.
- Kit Connor (Warfare, Heartstopper)
- Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Paddington)
- Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War)
- Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Black Bag)
- Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms)
- Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)
- Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes)
- Ruby Cruz (Willow, Bottoms)
- Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Parks & Recreation)
- John Hodgkinson
- Jefferson Hall
- Emma Laird
- Peter Serafinowicz
If released as planned, this movie will arrive just six years after the game it’s based on, which is a remarkably quick turnaround.
The world of Elden Ring has incredibly rich and detailed storytelling, developed with help from George R.R. Martin, the author of Game of Thrones. It’s sparked so many ideas about where a potential movie adaptation could go, and I’m already imagining all the possibilities while revisiting the game’s lore through videos by VaatiVidya.
If an Elden Ring movie were made, what kind of story would you want to see? What characters or plot points are absolutely essential to include? I believe the backstories of figures like Marika, Radagon, Malenia, and Miquella – and the history of the royal families – should definitely be part of it. Otherwise, I’m excited to see what creative ideas the filmmakers bring to the table.
The upcoming Elden Ring movie will also be filmed in IMAX, which means it should be visually stunning, even if the plot takes an unexpected turn.
