The Diplomat season 4 gets a “brilliant” filming update from series star Allison Janney.
Fans of the Netflix thriller The Diplomat have reason to be excited, as production on season 4 is underway. The new season will continue to follow Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), the US ambassador to the UK, as she navigates increasingly complex international political issues and a growing conspiracy. Allison Janney, who plays President Grace Penn – a key figure responsible for the explosion of the HMS Courageous – has been promoted to a full-time cast member for season 4.
While promoting her new movie, Miss You, Love You, Janney told ScreenRant that filming for season 4 of The Diplomat is nearing completion. She shared they only have two episodes left to shoot before moving into editing and post-production. Janney spoke highly of the show’s creator, Debora Cahn, and her co-star, Bradley Whitford, and also teased some of the locations fans can expect to see in the new season.
Check out what Janney had to say below:
Ash Crossan: Allison, I want to ask you about The Diplomat season 4.
We’re currently filming the show, with just two episodes left in the season. The showrunner, Debora Cahn, is fantastic, and I think audiences will really enjoy it. It’s a lot of fun working with Brad Whitford, and the role is taking me to some amazing locations – I’m heading to Florence to film the final two episodes, which I’m really excited about!
Wow, the end of The Diplomat Season 3 was a total shocker! I was really led to believe that Kate was helping to safely neutralize Poseidon, that terrifying weapon, by convincing the UK Prime Minister to bury the submarine in concrete. We all thought it was about preventing anyone from getting their hands on it. But then, the final moments revealed that Hal and Grace had been playing everyone the whole time! They tricked Kate and Trowbridge, and they actually stole Poseidon for themselves. I can’t believe it – what a cliffhanger!
In season 4 of The Diplomat, Janney’s Grace, Whitford’s Todd, and Mensah’s Billie Appiah will all be series regulars. The main cast isn’t expected to grow, suggesting the story will heavily focus on Hal’s betrayal of Kate. Meanwhile, Grace appears to be developing her own agenda involving Poseidon, which could put the world at risk as her plans unfold.
With season 4 of The Diplomat nearing completion of filming, we can expect official news about its release soon. The show has premiered in October for the past two seasons, so October 2026 is a likely timeframe for the new season. However, the creators might delay the release slightly to ensure the latest episodes are polished and ready before they air.
Janney’s recent comments suggest season 4 of The Diplomat will be full of twists and turns. The show’s storyline is expanding with each season, so it’s no surprise that new locations like Florence, Italy, are becoming central to the plot. As production moves forward, we can expect more details about the show’s future and the unfolding conspiracy.
