‘The Diplomat’ Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

As a seasoned fan of political dramas, I can’t help but feel a surge of exhilaration upon hearing the news that “The Diplomat” has been renewed for Season 3! Having binge-watched the first season back in the summer of 2023, I was left utterly captivated by Keri Russell’s riveting portrayal of Ambassador Kate Wyler. The intrigue, suspense, and the tantalizing glimpses into the inner workings of global diplomacy had me hooked from the very first episode!

“The Diplomat” has been renewed for Season 3 weeks ahead of the show’s Season 2 premiere.

The politically-themed series on Netflix, which is its second season, will start airing on Halloween (October 31). Currently, work for the third season is being done in both London and New York. This information was officially shared by Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, during her appearance at the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Los Angeles.

In “The Diplomat,” Keri Russell takes the main role, joined by a talented ensemble that includes Rufus Sewell, Allison Janney, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh.

Following a fantastic summer of filming in the UK, we’ve managed to recreate London in New York for our series,” said Debora Cahn, the show’s creator. “It’s the best of both worlds – shooting scenes in Brooklyn. We absolutely adore what we do and are thrilled about continuing this journey.

The television series ‘The Diplomat’ premiered on Netflix in April 2023 to great praise from both critics and viewers. In recognition of its success, Russell received nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe during Season 1. Moreover, the show was also nominated for a Golden Globe award in the category of best drama series, along with several other prestigious honors.

Apart from developing “The Diplomat”, Cahn takes on roles as both showrunner and executive producer. In the same vein, Russell not only acts but also serves as an executive producer for the series. Additionally, Janice Williams and Alex Graves hold executive producer positions as well.

The official description for Season 2 states:

A devastating explosion in central London leaves US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s life in pieces (Russell). As she tries to piece her shattered world back together, Kate discovers that the incident that brought her to the UK was not instigated by a foreign adversary, but orchestrated from within the British government. With her ex-husband Hal Wyler (Sewell) proving to be her only reliable ally, Kate must navigate treacherous marital waters, intricate relationships with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (Gyasi), and a menacing visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Janney).
