The Day Before Dev's Kickstarter Canceled After Minimal Funding, Announces New Project

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for physics-based multiplayer co-op games and a hardened heart towards developers who’ve seen their fair share of ups and downs, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Fntastic. The studio’s Kickstarter campaign for Escape Factory may have been a flop, but they’re not ones to shy away from a challenge.

Fntastic, the developer behind the troubled game The Day Before, has canceled its Kickstarter campaign for Escape Factory due to a lack of interest. The game, which aimed to deliver a physics-based multiplayer co-op experience, raised only $2,388 of its $15,183 goal (converted from Singapore dollars) with just 50 pledges. In a statement posted on social media, the studio indicated that Escape Factory had not generated sufficient interest and would be placed on hold, while announcing the development of a new project called Items, an action-horror prop hunt game.

As an ardent supporter, I’m sharing the account of Fntastic acknowledging their role in the shortcomings that marred The Day Before. These setbacks encompassed misleading promotions, technical glitches at launch, and allegations of deceiving players – a situation I, like many others, found distressing. However, they’ve pledged to maintain transparency and actively engage with the community as they move forward into their latest undertaking. Consequently, all contributions will be reimbursed to patrons, and for now, work on Escape Factory is being paused.

Due to numerous inquiries about creating a prop hunt game, and after thorough consideration with our team, Fntastic has chosen to focus on developing Items instead, as the Escape Factory project didn’t seem to attract sufficient attention.

Additionally, the developer mentioned intentions to unveil mobile games together with the items, and stated that earnings from these applications would be immediately channeled towards development expenses. In simpler terms, the team said they will use all revenue earned from these apps specifically for development costs.

Previously, Fantastic unveiled Propnight, encountering its unique hurdles, such as a server shutdown this year. Potential in-game items could be backed through a future Kickstarter event, offering gamers an early taste of the game prior to its formal debut.
