The Dan Da Dan Cast Talk Getting Recognized While Buying Shoes And Other Memorable Fan Experiences Since The Series Skyrocketed In Popularity

Approximately six months have passed since the debut of Dan Da Dan, and the adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga has quickly garnered praise, even from our own Alexandra Ramos. This is evident through various means, such as winning three awards and being nominated in 19 different categories at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards. I highly suggest Dan Da Dan as an ideal anime for those new to watching anime. Moreover, a dedicated fanbase supports this series, and three English dub actors have shared their experiences with me about the memorable fan encounters they’ve had since the anime gained widespread popularity.

Prior to the launch of Season 2 of “Dan Da Dan” on both Crunchyroll and Netflix in early July, a compilation movie titled “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye” featuring the first three episodes will debut in theaters. This special event is already scheduled for release in 2025 cinemas. In anticipation of this theatrical screening, I was fortunate enough to interview A.J. Beckles, Aleks Le, and Abby Trott, who lend their voices to Jiji, Okarun, and Momo in the English dub. During our chat, Beckles shared anecdotes about the “Dan Da Dan” fan encounters they’ve had, expressing:

At gatherings and events, I’ve noticed an increase in encounters with people. It’s evident when you’re there, just look at how many individuals are enthusiastic about something, be it a concept or a project, showcased through cosplays. I’ve seen countless couples cosplaying together. I’ve also witnessed numerous people simply thrilled about Dan Da Dan. They express their excitement with phrases like, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t wait,’ which is quite fascinating. There’s nothing particularly odd about it. Once, while I was having dinner, a man recognized me from TikTok, and he said, ‘You’re the one from…,’ to which I replied, ‘Yes,’ and then he treated us to free desserts.

Even though Jiji didn’t make his grand entrance until the last couple of episodes in Season 1 of “Dan Da Dan”, it’s clear that this series has a massive following, as I managed to identify him from just that! The free desserts were an added delight, and here’s hoping A.J. Beckles can snag more freebies due to his passion for “Dan Da Dan”. Aleks Le made a point saying:

It’s indeed so. The other day, I found myself in a shoe store at the mall, purchasing white shoes for the Dan Da Dan premiere we had the day before, which I wore exactly the day before. While I was trying them on, an employee asked, “Are you…?

Among these three actors, each boasts an impressive voice acting portfolio, yet Dan Da Dan, a recommendation for body horror and X-Files enthusiasts, appears to be a remarkable addition to their repertoire. Regarding Abby Trott, although she hasn’t received public recognition for this anime or any of her other works, she has enjoyed engaging with fans at conventions. As she shared:

I rarely get identified outside conventions, which suits me just fine… At these events, I enjoy engaging with fans immensely. The cosplay is incredible, and I’ve had countless people approach me for autographs on the manga. Many of them have been fans of the comic longer than they knew the series was even going to be made. It’s been truly gratifying to connect with everyone over our shared enthusiasm.

Given the phenomenal popularity of “Dan Da Dan” Season 1 last year, fueled by the growing trend of anime and the mounting anticipation for Season 2, it’s safe to say that the buzz around this series isn’t going anywhere soon. This means that A.J. Beckles, Aleks Le, and Abby Trott can expect a continuous influx of fans associated with the show, whether they meet them casually or in more structured settings like conventions.
