‘The Crown’ Exec Producer Andy Harries to Step Down as Left Bank Pictures CEO, Move to Chairman Role

After eighteen remarkable years as the founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, a Sony-owned company and executive producer of the acclaimed series “The Crown”, I am now moving into the role of Executive Chairman. This change marks a new chapter in my journey with this esteemed production house.

2026 will see Harries transition to a fresh role, where he’ll stay on as CEO until a successor is appointed. During this time, he will also carry on serving as an executive producer on notable upcoming and future projects by Left Bank Pictures. This includes the adaptation of James Graham’s “Dear England,” Stephen Butchard’s “This City Is Ours” (set to premiere this week at London Screenings), and Scott Frank’s upcoming Netflix detective series, “Department Q,” scheduled for release in early summer.

In my perspective, Andy Harries isn’t just someone who deserves the label ‘legend’; he truly embodies it. At Left Bank Pictures, he has crafted one of the world’s most esteemed drama powerhouses. The shows produced by Left Bank are not only smart and witty, but they also reflect Andy’s unique creativity. We at Sony are thrilled to extend our partnership with him in this fresh role.

Or,

I firmly believe that Andy Harries isn’t just labeled as a legend; he lives up to the title. At Left Bank Pictures, he has cultivated one of the most prestigious global drama labels. The shows produced by Left Bank are not only clever and playful, but they also mirror Andy’s extraordinary creativity. We at Sony are ecstatic about continuing our collaboration with him in this new capacity.

In 2007, Andy received the Special Achievement award from BAFTA, and in May 2011, he was bestowed with the title of Fellow by the Royal Television Society for exceptional contributions to the broadcasting sector. In 2024, he was honored with the British Press Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, and in the 2019 Birthday Honours list, he received an OBE for his distinguished work in television and film. Notably, “The Crown” has garnered 24 Primetime Emmys and many other accolades.

Harries expressed that these are dynamic times for our business, which is swiftly evolving. The new position he’s taking on enables him to ensure Left Bank continues to tackle the artistic and financial hurdles in producing premium UK dramas under difficult circumstances. However, this doesn’t mean he’s retiring or slowing down! We have some fantastic shows on the horizon, and he’s thrilled to stay involved with them – as well as a few others we’re keeping under wraps. He takes great pride in what Left Bank has accomplished over the past 18 years, the programs and the team we’ve developed, and is eager to contribute to the next phase of our story.
