As a long-time horror enthusiast with a knack for appreciating innovative storytelling, I can confidently say that The Creep Tapes is shaping up to be an intriguing addition to my horror binge-watch list! Having been a fan of the original Creep films, I’m thrilled to see their expansion into a TV series.

The Creep Tapes is a fresh television program derived from a couple of films, and Shudder envisions it to last for an impressive run of 100 episodes.

A decade ago, filmmakers Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice launched Creep into an unsuspecting world.

In a modest horror production, an eccentric character (Duplass) recruits a filmmaker (Brice) to document his personal journal, but events soon grow ominous and eventually turn into a genuinely chilling experience.

The film was successful, and a similarly terrifying sequel came after, but there hasn’t been much news about it since then. However, that changed when Shudder announced they were producing a spinoff series titled “The Creep Tapes,” which premieres on their streaming service today (November 15).

At Fantastic Fest, TopMob watched the initial three installments of The Creep Tapes, discovering that the compact TV duration seemed to enhance the overall viewing pleasure.

During a question-and-answer session following the screening, Duplass shared insights about the show’s creation. He mentioned, “We produced the initial films for Netflix, and those experiences were fantastic, providing us with significant freedom. However, when it came to creating the series, we felt an intense desire to let loose and be completely unhinged. We wanted to go all out and do whatever we pleased.

We deliberately produced the entire series ourselves without any external help. We filmed all six episodes… Afterward, we sought a distributor courageous enough to share our work. That’s when we came across Shudder and AMC. They were thrilled about it, eager to collaborate on making 100 episodes of this show with us.

Duplass found the thought amusing about creating that many episodes, yet with sixty episodes already completed, he assured there would be an additional ninety-four episodes produced!

It appears that he doesn’t lack creative storylines for the show, as during the same Q&A, Duplass mentioned the origin of the series: “I was strolling around my neighborhood and I phoned Patrick, saying ‘We have a plethora of fantastic ideas for Creep 3 – why don’t we bring them all to life and let’s create a TV show? We can produce many more like these.’
