For the Conner family, the saying “What goes up must come down” seems more fitting than “Easy come, easy go.” Despite their constant struggles, a spark of financial relief has emerged as The Conners approaches its final season in 2025; however, this beacon comes after years of emotional turmoil that began with the tragic loss of matriarch Roseanne due to her medication issues.
The recurring plot element caused a major argument between Becky and Dan on “The Conners,” an argument that might be the most intense of the series. With their bitter accusations about Roseanne’s demise, one can anticipate that this season’s final episodes won’t get any more acrimonious. During her interview with TopMob about this dramatic turning point, I asked Lecy Goranson how she felt about revisiting Roseanne’s death for the last season, and here’s what she shared:
I found it deeply emotional and impactful, and the writer’s intelligence shone through brilliantly. It simply seemed fitting.
It seems challenging to imagine a more fitting path for the Conner family to gain prosperity than by revisiting their most painful experiences. However, it is evident that both Becky and Dan (and possibly others) have held feelings of guilt, shame, and blame for such a long time that they risk erupting like a volcano.
If they manage to win in court by demonstrating that Roseanne was exploited by the pharmaceutical industry and that those responsible for her healthcare were negligent, allowing her overdose to occur, it might initiate a healing process where Dan and his children can release some of their bitter emotions.
For now, it’s clear that the struggle continues, and Lecy Goranson emphasized that The Conners is not your typical sitcom. Instead, it mirrors the hardships faced by real families with the title family experiencing similar challenges as their own. As Lecy put it:
In everyday terms, just as sitcoms often present situations neatly wrapped up in a bow, real life doesn’t follow that pattern. Life events, particularly those involving families, can leave lasting impacts. I believe Roseanne’s situation was unjust, and it resonates with the spirit of the Connor family to take on a David-versus-Goliath challenge against powerful adversaries.
Over time, the sitcom hasn’t ignored or minimized Roseanne’s death and impact on the show. From Dan’s battles to avoid foreclosure, subtle hints about her secret habits, to the return of Crystal Anderson and other familiar faces from Roseanne, it has kept Roseanne’s memory alive. Fans remember how the original sitcom dealt with the family’s sudden wealth through a lottery win, and I can only hope that The Conners manages its conclusion more gracefully without feeling too awkward.
Regardless of their financial situation, it’s clear that Darlene and Becky will still find a way to make the most cutting remarks when they are present, adding an awkward atmosphere to the situation.
