The Complete Run Of Captain Planet Is Finally Getting A Physical Release

As a seasoned gamer with memories of playing arcade games at the local pizza parlor and spending countless hours in front of the family’s old CRT TV, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of Captain Planet on DVD has me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. The show was a breath of fresh air back in the ’90s, and it still resonates with its powerful messages about environmentalism.

If you’re one of the many folks who have been experiencing superhero fatigue in recent years, it may actually be that it’s not the superheroes themselves that you’re tired of. Instead, it might simply be that you’re over all these empty spectacles that don’t have anything to say. Entertainment is good, but entertainment with substance is better. Fortunately for you, the complete run of the early 1990s cartoon Captain Planet, including all six seasons, is being released on DVD for the first time on October 15. Preorders are live now at Amazon.

Today, Captain Planet is warmly recalled for its strong advocacy of environmentalism and real-world environmental initiatives. It’s possible that creating Captain Planet now might face more challenges due to the increasing political polarization surrounding anthropogenic climate change, a topic that has grown increasingly contentious since the show first premiered

In 1990, Captain Planet made its debut, boasting an impressive roster of famous voice actors such as Whoopi Goldberg, Meg Ryan, Martin Sheen, Jeff Goldblum, LeVar Burton, Ed Asner, and Dean Stockwell. The show ran for six years, divided into two separate series: Captain Planet and the Planeteers for the initial three seasons, followed by The New Adventures of Captain Planet in the final three seasons. This division occurred due to a change in production, with Hanna-Barbera taking over after Season 3, thus the separation is primarily a legal one

Did you know that one of the villains in Captain Planet shares a name with a character from another realm? The character is called Duke Nukem, who bears a striking resemblance to The Thing from the Fantastic Four. However, they have no connection to each other as both characters were independently created. Interestingly, an early version of the Duke Nukem video game was named Duke Nukum due to the Captain Planet villain’s existence, but since the character wasn’t yet trademarked, the video game hero retained his original moniker
