The Chosen will expand into a “biblical universe” with 5 new shows

As a fan who has witnessed the journey of Dallas Jenkins from a crowdfunded indie short to a creator of a full-fledged cinematic universe, I must say it’s nothing short of miraculous! The way he’s brought Bible stories to life in such a human and authentic way is truly inspiring.

It was confirmed that speculations about a “cinematic universe based on the Bible” were accurate, as Dallas Jenkins, the creator of ‘The Chosen‘, established 5&2 Studios and a collection of fresh tales inspired by biblical accounts.

The final season of “The Chosen” TV show will wrap up in Season 7, marking the end of the visual storytelling about Jesus Christ and his followers on screen. In the year 2024, the series made a big-screen debut, generating $59 million globally during its theatrical run for Season 4.

In the near future, a well-established production company is expected to grow out of the religious drama genre, as Dallas Jenkins establishes 5&2 Studios. As stated in their mission, this studio aims to create Bible-inspired narratives using compelling, relatable storytelling and interactive audience experiences.

5&2 Studios is currently working on a collection of upcoming TV series, each one being a spin-off from “The Chosen”. Here’s a list of the shows they are developing:

  • The Chosen Adventures
  • The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls
  • Untitled Moses series
  • Untitled Acts of the Apostles series
  • Untitled Joseph series

The Chosen will expand into a “biblical universe” with 5 new shows

The “Biblical Universe” launches with “The Chosen Adventures,” an animated show centered around Jesus’ encounters with a group of kids. Jenkins, talking about the series [via Variety], said, “There’s space to narrate the story of Jesus by viewing it through the lens of children in a playful and imaginative animation style.

Upcoming is “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls,” where Jenkins will participate in a variety of challenges alongside The Chosen fan, Bear Grylls, throughout a six-episode series. Moreover, Jenkins hinted at more collaborations to come in the unscripted genre, stating, “This is just the beginning of several partnerships in the reality TV realm.

Following the conclusion of The Chosen in Season 7, a new series spanning over three seasons will delve into the life of Moses. Executive producer Aaron Jenkins has labeled this upcoming story as an “epic tale,” likening Moses to a “reluctant character akin to Tony Soprano.” In other words, Moses is portrayed as the individual who was assigned the responsibility of leading one of the world’s largest families, yet he wasn’t keen on taking up this role.

Lastly, there are two productions currently being worked on: “The Acts of the Apostles” and “The Story of Joseph.” Regarding the Joseph series, Jenkins mentioned that it could potentially span across eight episodes. On the other hand, specific details about the Apostles series have yet to be disclosed.

Seven years ago, I backed a crowdfunded indie short called The Chosen. Today, it’s amazing to see how far the world of creator Jenkins has expanded! Now, we have our very own studio, and the story is unfolding in a cinematic manner. Could this be a modern-day Marvel Jesus? I can hardly wait to find out!
