‘The Chi’ Renewed for Season 8 at Showtime

“The Chi” has scored an early Season 8 renewal at Parmaount+ with Showtime.

The announcement arrives about fortnight post the airing of Season 7’s opener, marking it as the most-watched premiere ever for the series based on Paramount’s data.

In Season 7, Alicia (Lynn Whitfield) takes charge as the leading figure among the significant women in ‘The Chi’. As they work to regain their authority, old allegiances are strained, and fresh conflicts ignite. However, it’s evident that only one throne can be claimed, and the price for victory may prove too steep.

In addition to Whitfield, the television show’s ensemble also features Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross, Michael V. Epps, Shamon Brown Jr., Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Wendy Raquel Robinson.

Following its renewal for Season 8, “The Chi” joins the ranks of Showtime’s longest-running series, having matched the number of seasons as shows like “Dexter,” “Homeland,” and “Weeds.” These series also ran for eight seasons on the premium network. Only “Shameless” has run longer, concluding after 11 seasons in 2021.

Lena Waithe is the mastermind behind “The Chi” and serves as an executive producer under her Hillman Grad label. Justin Hillian acts as co-showrunner and executive producer through Hillianaire Productions, with Jewel Coronel also serving as co-showrunner and executive producer via Uncut Gems, Inc. Common is among the executive producers, along with Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone from ID8 Multimedia, Naomi Funabashi who supervises for Hillman Grad, and Rishi Rajani, CEO of Hillman Grad. Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield, the supervising producers, directed several episodes in season seven. The studio behind this production is 20th Television.
