The Boys star Erin Moriarty shares warning after Graves’ disease diagnosis

Actress Erin Moriarty, recognized widely for portraying Annie January/Starlight in the series ‘The Boys’, has recently spoken publicly about receiving a diagnosis of Graves’ disease. She also issued a word of caution to her followers.

Currently, Moriarty is joining the main cast for filming of The Boys Season 5, where they will conclude the popular series with a final superhero battle.

The fourth season concluded as the newly-elected president declared martial law, with Homelander heading a team of superheroes on a mission to apprehend “Starlighters”. Just as Annie found herself in a precarious situation, she managed to escape at the last moment, setting her up for potential confrontations in the upcoming fifth and final season.

In reality, Moriarty has faced a personal struggle of her own, expressing this on Instagram by stating, “Exactly a month ago, I was given a diagnosis of Graves’ disease. Just 24 hours after starting my treatment, I could feel the light returning.

In addition to her usual posts, Moriarty took the opportunity to educate her audience about autoimmune diseases. She strongly recommended anyone feeling unusually tired or exhibiting symptoms to seek medical attention.

Every individual’s autoimmune disease presents uniquely. So, your journey won’t mirror mine, and I can assure you, my experience isn’t the same as yours, either. These differences might be substantial or almost negligible,” she explained.

One point I’d like to make is: If I hadn’t attributed it all to stress and exhaustion, I would have detected this earlier. A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within a day of starting the treatment, I felt the light returning. Since then, it has been growing stronger each day.

If there’s the slightest hint of dimness, head for a check-up. Don’t bear it stoically; you deserve comfort. Life’s challenges are tough enough already.

Graves’ disease refers to an autoimmune ailment, which leads the thyroid gland to function excessively, resulting in a state called hyperthyroidism.

The immune system sometimes erroneously targets the thyroid gland, leading it to overproduce thyroid hormones beyond what the body requires.

This situation may result in various symptoms such as tiredness, nervousness, unexpected weight reduction, fast pulse, trembling, and heightened response to warmth.

If not handled properly, Graves’ disease can become severe, but it is often controlled through the use of medication, radioiodine treatment, or surgical intervention in certain instances.

Moriarty’s fans have been showering her with encouragement, with one commenting, “I’m overjoyed that you’re on the path to recovery,” while another expressed, “Stay healthy, dear sea friend. Sending you a wave of love and backing.

As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for The Boys Season 5, but we anticipate that it will become available on Amazon Prime Video around the year 2026.
