The Boys creator took one big lesson from Breaking Bad for Season 5 finale

Eric Kripke, the mastermind behind “The Boys,” is experiencing a significant dose of fear as he works on making sure the season finale is perfect – so he sought advice from the creators of “Breaking Bad.

Previously, Kripke has faced a similar situation: the final episode of Supernatural didn’t please many viewers, and a disappointing or divisive finale can have an immense effect on the overall series quality.

For instance, consider the show Lost. It’s often considered one of the best TV series ever made, watched by millions worldwide, but what keeps people discussing it is its highly debated finale.

To ensure precision, Kripke sought inspiration from one of the most outstanding concluding scenes ever created.

The Boys creator is in “terror” over Season 5 finale

In conversation with Shawn Ryan on Sony’s Creator to Creator podcast, Kripke shared his concerns saying, “I have quite a bit of apprehension regarding the series finale.

A small number of exceptional TV series endings can be easily counted using just one or two hands. On the other hand, there are countless disappointing finales that fill the ‘graveyard’.

Even if a performance has been consistently excellent over several years, if it concludes poorly, people may leave feeling underwhelmed, thinking to themselves, “Perhaps the production wasn’t as impressive as I thought.

“What’s your method for wrapping up stories? How do you make it both emotionally resonant and fulfilling? And how do you skillfully weave in elements from earlier seasons, giving the impression that a detail from Season 1 or 2 is now being paid off?

According to Kripke, Breaking Bad is nearly flawless (and many concur given its ‘Felina’ finale has a 9.9 rating on IMDb). He even inquired from the writers about how they managed to wrap up all the plotlines so effectively.

They commented, “We’ve been accumulating various unresolved plot points on our board, not knowing how to handle them for quite some time. As the seasons progressed, these loose ends just kept piling up. However, when it came to preparing the final season, we decided to tackle them one by one since we thought that by resolving the Season 2 storyline in a clever way, we would appear as though we had planned everything perfectly.

“So that, I would say, has been a big challenge. The size of it, you know?”
