Doug Liman, who directed The Bourne Identity, is working with Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne on a new action-packed spy thriller for movie theaters.
Director Doug Liman burst onto the Hollywood scene in 2002 with the action thriller The Bourne Identity. While he didn’t direct any of the sequels starring Matt Damon, he’s continued to work on action films. Now, he’s returning to the genre with a new movie featuring Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne.
Okay, so Variety is reporting that Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne are potentially going to be in this new movie called Star One, and honestly, the premise sounds awesome. Apparently, they’ll be playing two CIA agents who are total opposites – Teller is going to be the cool, charming risk-taker, while Redmayne is the super serious, by-the-book type. The story is about them going on this incredibly dangerous, secret mission, traveling thousands of miles into enemy territory to sneak weapons in. Sounds like a fun ride!
Star One is a film based on a real, previously unknown story. It focuses on the first person to receive an intelligence star for a crucial, but largely forgotten, mission. Director Barry Levinson will helm the project, and David Coggeshall, known for his work on The Family Plan, is writing the screenplay.
Following his film Bitcoin, Liman is now working on Star One, a biographical thriller about cryptocurrency featuring Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher. The film is expected to be presented at the Cannes market, with CAA managing sales in the US and Black Bear handling international distribution.
Though Star One will be the first project bringing Miles Teller and Eddie Redmayne together, both actors have experience in action and spy genres. Teller is known for his roles in the Divergent films and The Gorge, while Redmayne starred in the TV series The Day of the Jackal, based on the popular novel and film. The Day of the Jackal has been renewed for a second season.
Currently, Teller is starring as John Branca, Michael Jackson’s lawyer, in the new biopic Michael. Film fans at the Cannes Film Festival will soon see him alongside Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in Paper Tigers, which is competing for the Palm d’Or award. He’s also lending his voice to the animated film The Ark and the Aardvark, scheduled for release in the fall of 2027.
Eddie Redmayne hasn’t appeared in a film since 2022, with his last roles in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and The Good Nurse. He’s scheduled to return to the big screen in February 2027 in the thriller Panic Carefully, alongside Julia Roberts, Elizabeth Olsen, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Director Doug Liman is known for action films like The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Edge of Tomorrow, and Chaos Walking. He was set to direct a spy thriller called The Initiative with Angelina Jolie, with filming planned for early 2026, but it’s now uncertain if that project will happen next. Liman’s current focus may have shifted to Star One instead.
