‘The Bondsman’ Canceled After One Season at Amazon

The Bondsman” has been canceled at Amazon after just one season, EbMaster has learned.

Originally, the entire eight-episode first season of the action-horror series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 3. Although Amazon has not disclosed any viewership data for the show, it managed to appear once on the Nielsen streaming rankings during its debut week.

This past week from March 31st to April 6th, my favorite new release, “The Bondsman,” climbed up the Nielsen streaming originals charts all the way to the number nine spot! It was watched for a staggering total of 563 million minutes, which is roughly equivalent to 9.38 million hours. As a film enthusiast, this just goes to show how captivating this movie has been for viewers like myself!

Kevin Bacon played the lead role as the bondman, with Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Beth Grant, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy joining him in the cast. The series description goes like this:

Both versions aim to convey the same meaning by providing information about who stars in a series and its official summary.

The character Hub Halloran, previously murdered bounty hunter played by Bacon, is brought back to life not by any ordinary means but by the Devil himself. His mission? To capture and return demons that have broken free from the underworld’s prisons. As he pursues these demons with the assistance and obstruction of his estranged relatives, Hub discovers how his past wrongdoings led to his own damnation. This revelation sparks in him a desire for redemption, driving him to seek a second chance at life, love, and his cherished country music.

David Grainger authored “The Bondsman” and served as its executive producer. Erik Oleson, under his company Crimethink, held the roles of both executive producer and showrunner. Additionally, Bacon took on the role of executive producer, alongside starring in the series. Furthermore, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie serve as executive producers for Blumhouse Television. Lastly, Paul Shapiro from CrimeThink also assumes the role of executive producer.

Upon its premiere, the show generally garnered positive feedback from critics. However, Alison Herman of EbMaster observed that due to having only eight half-hour episodes in its first season, ‘The Bondsman’ needed to transition from setup to conclusion swiftly before it could find a comfortable space for an extended midsection.
