The Best Dinosaur Movie Since Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park Officially Releases On Streaming In 2 Weeks

Jurassic Park‘s successor is ready to roar soon.

The Jurassic Park movies are undeniably one of the most famous and successful movie series ever made. Not only have they consistently earned a lot of money at the box office, but critics have generally liked them too. The franchise continues to be a hit with audiences even now – for example, Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth earned $869.1 million in 2025, signaling a strong new direction.

When people think of dinosaur movies, the Jurassic Park series usually comes to mind. However, there have been other great releases in this sci-fi genre. 65, starring Adam Driver, came out in 2023, and in 2025, audiences saw both Primitive War and a new Jurassic World film, Rebirth.

The dinosaur adventure film, Primitive War, will be available to stream on Hulu in the U.S. starting April 4th. It’s directed by Luke Sparke, an Australian filmmaker known for his science fiction work. The movie features a cast including Anthony Ingruber, Jeremy Piven, Nick Wechsler, Tricia Helfer, and Ryan Kwanten, among others.

As the title suggests, Primitive War combines dinosaurs and military action. The story is set during the Vietnam War and follows a reconnaissance team called the Vultures, sent to investigate the disappearance of another special forces squad. They soon discover the jungle holds a dangerous secret: a pack of deadly dinosaurs.

The movie Primitive War showcases a variety of dinosaurs, including popular favorites like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Spinosaurus, and Triceratops. Despite being an independent film with a reported budget of around $7 million, it delivers plenty of action and features surprisingly realistic and scary dinosaur CGI.

I just finished watching Primitive War, and wow! It’s based on the book by Ethan Pettus, who actually helped write the screenplay too. It’s a little over two hours long, and trust me, it’s worth it. The movie finally explains how dinosaurs ended up in Vietnam – and the sci-fi reason is really cool! It’s definitely an R-rated movie, but audiences seem to love it, and I can see why!

Viewers on Rotten Tomatoes really enjoyed Primitive War, giving it an 86% rating. Critics gave it a respectable 63%. Bill Dubiel of ScreenRant scored the dinosaur film a 7 out of 10, praising it as “a bloody genre mash-up that proves blockbuster spectacle doesn’t require a huge budget.” Currently, a sequel to Primitive War is planned to come out in 2027.
