Just like the villains of Gotham City keep Batman’s true identity hidden, so too does his persona remain a great enigma in the DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran. A fresh comment from the director of “The Batman,” Matt Reeves, has once again sparked debate among fans about who the Dark Knight truly is.
Despite Robert Pattinson‘s impressive portrayal of the title character in Matt Reeves’ highly acclaimed film The Batman, his role as the DC Universe’s Batman remains uncertain due to the movie’s position outside the DCEU and the ongoing consolidation of the DCU. Furthermore, both DC’s initial Batman film and a potential follow-up by Reeves have yet to be confirmed, leaving it unclear whether Pattinson’s well-received portrayal will become the official Batman for the DC Universe.
Recently, there’s been speculation among fans about Robert Pattinson possibly joining the DC Universe, following director Matt Reeves’ cryptic comment in a discussion. This has left fans wondering once more if Pattinson might take on the role of Gotham’s renowned detective, Batman.
Battinson may be Gotham’s greatest detective if it “makes sense”
While strolling through the glitzy Golden Globes red carpet, I chatted with Reeves about the rumors swirling around Robert Pattinson possibly becoming the DC Universe’s ultimate sleuth. He simply said, “It all boils down to whether it fits the storyline.
He shared, “I had a tale I wished to share, one we’ve dubbed an ‘epic crime saga’, essentially the heart of our vision, and it holds significant importance for me to bring this story to life.
James and Peter have been very cooperative regarding that matter, giving us the freedom to proceed. As for what lies ahead, I’m unable to predict at this moment; all I can say is that my focus is currently on preparing for The Batman 2 production, aiming to create something exceptional, which naturally takes priority.
Reeves maintained the mystery in his summation: “I don’t know, we’ll have to see where that goes.”
There are reports that Gunn is considering casting Pattinson as the official Batman for the DC Universe, but it’s up to Reeves to decide if his Batman films will be part of the overall DCU. As of now, nothing has been confirmed officially.
Despite Gunn’s reluctance to confirm specific character details and the delayed releases of “The Brave and the Bold” and “The Batman 2,” Robert Pattinson’s integration into the DCU remains flexible. With Gunn open to collaboration and Reeves stressing that “The Batman 2” takes precedence, we’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.
