As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of the Batman series, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation that borders on excitement when it comes to The Batman 2. Having lived through the chaos and turmoil wrought by the Penguin in Gotham City, I can only imagine how our caped crusader is grappling with the aftermath.
As I navigated through the gritty streets of Gotham, the echoes of “The Penguin’s” mayhem still resonated, leaving Oz Cobb as the undisputed ruler in the city’s chaos-ridden underworld. This tumultuous turn of events will undoubtedly shape the narrative of my next encounter with The Batman.
Towards the conclusion of “The Batman” in 2022, Bruce Wayne’s approach to combating crime underwent a transformation: fear remained a useful tool, but hope became a more potent weapon. In his own words, “I’ve made a difference, though not exactly the one I aimed for.
Nevertheless, the Riddler’s assaults left Gotham in ruins, setting the stage for a fierce power struggle marked by violence. Two major crime families were eradicated, an enormous explosion created a crater in the city’s poorest district, and Oz seized power in The Penguin finale, emerging as Gotham’s cruelest gangster to date.
It’s unclear what the Caped Crusader has been doing in the meantime, but when he reappears in The Batman 2, he’ll discover that playing the role of the city’s needed hero won’t be easy.
Matt Reeves shared with Digital Spy that this period was marked by significant upheaval in the city, and it was indeed just a week following that event.
In these turbulent times, it’s evident that much of our city is grappling with hardship. With resources stretched thin, the police force simply cannot be everywhere at once. Unfortunately, this has led to an alarming increase in criminal activity across the city, making it a perilous place for us residents. I find myself constantly on edge and longing for the day when our streets are safe once more.
[Batman] is out there dealing with the consequences of all that transpired, a situation he partially attributes to his own actions.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves highlighted that Oz will appear in the upcoming sequel, but it’s primarily a Batman film, concentrating on Batman and Bruce Wayne. Essentially, the movie will delve deeper into Robert Pattinson’s character arc, and the Rogues Gallery plays a significant role in this journey.
