The Bachelorette Season-Premiere Recap: Quit Playing Games

As a seasoned Bachelor Nation viewer and armchair relationship expert, let me tell you, this Jenn character is quite the intriguing one! With her witty banter and her insatiable desire for connection, she’s got us all hooked.

Based on my extensive experience as a longtime fan of The Bachelor franchise, I firmly believe that Jenn is about to shake things up in a way no Bachelorette has ever done before. With her bold and unconventional moves, she’s sure to leave us all speechless during the dramatic finale. So, mark my words – place your bets on Vegas, because this season is going to end with a twist unlike any other!

She proposes.

As a movie critic with no prior knowledge of the upcoming season, I haven’t been exposed to any spoilers. Peeking at this Word document’s metadata might provide some clues, but based on my Emmy-winning intuition, Jenn is set to make history as the first Bachelorette to propose to her final suitor. Has anyone checked if there’s a slit in her final gown, making it easier for her to get down on one knee? This is uncharted territory: “No Bachelorette has ever done this before,” “Never thought I would do it,” “Done letting men call the shots.” By season’s end, Jenn will be making a heartfelt proposal to… I’m not certain it’s Sam M. (a.k.a. Good & Gather Tyler Cameron), but someone with impressive height will be the recipient of her affections. Let’s see how this unfolds!

If Jenn proposes to her F1 instead, it would eliminate the need for the show to interrupt the runner-up during his proposal, bringing an end to my constant criticism and pleas for equal control in the process. It’s a victory for feminist ideals as well as for the respect of a man like Chaseley or similar.

Although we’re still at the beginning of this journey, dear readers, it’s an exhilarating start! The historic first Asian American Bachelorette is here, and on the very first night, she left two Asian contestants in tears at Boston Commons. Jenn is set to make us all proud as we continue to follow her story. We have another significant Vietnamese contestant whose safety I’ll be closely monitoring. The show will explore Jenn’s identity this season, as she doesn’t have any other narrative from her previous appearance on Joey’s season. Joey’s kind and emotionally supportive nature made every woman feel heard, but it may prove challenging to recreate that dynamic. Jenn has chosen “surviving toxic relationships, dealing with emotionally distant parents, and emerging as a cool girl” as her themes for this season. She donned a gown reminiscent of Rachel Lindsay’s night-one dress and is eager to put her flirting skills to the test!

Let’s get to it!

I’m confused – what is this unexpected place? I prefer going back to The Bachelor’s familiar universe instead of discovering a new Hummingbird Nest Resort Ranch Bar & Grill. Has the VRBO agreement for the original mansion ended? I’d like to return there.

No time! The Jenntlemen are arriving.

As someone who’s grown up in a small rural community, I can’t stand it when people give themselves cute names. I mean, I get it, right? Who doesn’t want to feel special or unique? But for me and my friend Emma, who came up with the name “contesticles” years ago as a joke, this becomes a problem when these groups start gaining self-awareness.

Marcus, a former Army ranger who has served six deployments and was wounded by a grenade, was the first one to step out of the limousine. He hasn’t been on a date for five years and brought along an American flag rolled up with him, in preparation for his stay at the Hummingbird B&B. I’m just curious to know where he was during early January 2021, no particular reason behind it.

Next in line is Marvin, whose French accent is as flat as can be, and I learned middle school French in the Chicago area of Illinois. I’d like a hat there. Up next is Sam N., whom I often mistake for “Salmon.” Sam shares with Jenn that he’s a virgin, meaning he’s never experienced romantic love. Born in Iran, his family follows traditional customs: bringing someone home equates to engagement or marriage. Therefore, Sam intends to have one girlfriend and one wife. At 25 years old, Sam, you’re doing just fine.

I’ve watched Grant’s performance on the show with great interest. He sings about wanting to change Jenn’s name to Mrs. Ellis, and having played basketball overseas, it’s clear he’s got some skills on the court. But then comes Great Value Tyler Cameron into the picture. His entrance was unique, asking Jenn to imagine breakfast 50 years from now before exclaiming “shot o’clock.” I have to admit, I was mentally prepared for a montage of people bringing Jenn shots. However, what struck me most was Grant’s statement about wanting a cowboy. Now, I may not know Tyler personally, but his Southern accent and the way he spoke about crafting that Fantasy Suite experience left me thinking – this man knows how to make a woman feel special. While Grant may have some charisma, Tyler’s authenticity and thoughtfulness shone through, leaving an indelible impression on me as a viewer.

I’m a huge fan of “The Bachelorette” and let me tell you about an intriguing contestant named Thomas N. He presents Jenn with a bracelet, expressing his hope for a connection since they both share the background of having parents who immigrated from Vietnam. Unfortunately, Thomas was once an Olympic hopeful but suffered an injury to his rotator cuff, making him part of the failed athletes group. This backstory is what makes great television for the show. There’s still room for a surprise entry, like an XFL kicker, to shake things up.

Next, we have Jonathon approaching on a stretcher with his face entirely concealed by bandages and his backside exposed. ABC, please reveal the backside. He’s opted to keep his head wrapped until physician assistant Jenn removes the bandages at the appropriate time. Following this segment is the exciting vehicle portion of the show. Aaron, Noah Erb’s brother, enters on a motorcycle with a sidecar. Jeremy joins in a Corvette. Jeremy embodies the type of man Samantha Jones would have been attracted to during Sex and the City’s second season.

With a curl sponge in hand, Dylan appears in the opening segment. John is there as well. And the moment we’ve all been waiting for – Brett, the tall gentleman, made it to The Bachelorette! We achieved our goal. Success is within reach.

I’d put it this way: I know Devin, who grew up with a talkative nature, shaped largely by his upbringing by a single mom. Jenn and I were in sync when she described him as having a “real Pete” vibe – think Thicc Pete Davidson.

Hakeem had an excessive number of balloons with him – almost an unsettling abundance.

I’ve been there, feeling trapped in toxic relationships that left me drained and longing for something real and passionate. Jenn’s toast struck a chord with me as she bravely shared her desire for a ferocious love, unafraid of imperfections. Her words resonated with the fire inside me that craves deep connections and unfiltered emotions.

As someone who has had my fair share of experiences with different types of people, I must say that Jenn stands out as a unique character. She possesses an infectious energy and wit that draws people in, making her the kind of woman men often refer to when they speak longingly of wanting a “funny girlfriend.” Her ability to poke fun at everyday situations with a twinkle in her eye is both charming and vivacious. It’s no wonder the “Jenn-tlement” keep describing her as bubbly and down for a good time.

Jenn has a conversation with Spencer, who likely creates AI portraits of pets, and Thomas N., who proudly displays his tattoos. The women in their lives, their mothers, once worked in the medical field but chose to leave in order to provide better opportunities for their children. Spencer and Thomas may be strong contenders for “Sweetie of the Century,” sharing this commonality with Brett.

As someone who values clarity and predictability in my social interactions, I find myself utterly perplexed by this sudden turn of events. I’ve never been one for impromptu games, especially those bordering on the absurd, like Truth or Dare. Frankly, I didn’t join this gathering to revert back to childish antics reminiscent of co-worker’s bachelor/bachelorette parties. The only silver lining in this situation is Brett’s unexpected display of agility with his splits. However, even that doesn’t make up for the disorientation I feel at being thrust into such an unfamiliar dynamic.

As a cinephile, when the scene calms down, Salmon expresses his desire for a soulful connection instead of a simple lip-lock. This profound sentiment resonates with me deeply, and I plan to incorporate it into my own wedding vows. Additionally, I’m on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating the upcoming revelation of Salmon’s hidden secret – you just know he’s hiding something fascinating!

Jeremy invites Jenn to sit in his Corvette with him, but unfortunately, he forgets the keys. As they pass the time by chatting, Jenn asks about how Jeremy came to live in New York. He replplies casually, “I’m from Connecticut, so it was a natural progression for me.” However, there’s a chance Jeremy could be an ex-boyfriend of Jenn’s from the first season of the show, serving as a warning she doesn’t fully understand until the fifth season. As Brian emerges, drenched in sweat, and attempts to use the keys Jesse Palmer provided him to unlock the car, they engage in a minor disagreement during the First Night event. Neither one excites me much.

Jenn has a conversation with Devin, during which they discuss the topic of biting toes. I find Devin quite intriguing and would encourage him to act on his impulses in this regard.

After a while, Jenn steals the rose and hurriedly leaves into the darkness. She selects… Sam, unfortunately. It’s unclear if the First Impression rose signifies the Bachelorette’s eventual choice or simply her most desired kissing partner. In this scenario, it’s the latter. They discuss their strong connection, and Jenn admits, “I’ve been pondering you” multiple times. She playfully tries to attract attention to her lips by biting them and touching them, a la Cher Horowitz. Eventually, she pulls him in for… a prolonged kiss. They barely manage to stay upright. The scene keeps shifting between Jenn and Sam passionately kissing and the other men. “If only I had received the First Impression rose,” another man laments as they continue their lip-locking session. “The competition is intensifying.” Yet, they’re still locked in a deep kiss. “It’s time for the rose ceremony.” They’re still… making out.

Jenn says the kiss was feral. Yeah, girl. We saw.

It’s now time for the rose distribution. The following gentlemen receive roses: Dylan, Thomas N., Spencer, Grant, Marcus, Thomas A., John M., Jeremy, Devin, Brian, Aaron, Jahaan, Hakeem, Jonathan, Austin, Marvin, and Salmon.

Encountering Brett with his distinct red dreadlocks was quite an unexpected surprise. Occasionally, a contestant slips my mind, only to be eliminated. However, Brett was never far from my thoughts. I certainly hope to come across him once more in Paradise! The crowd’s demand for Brett is undeniable!

The show is venturing to new and unexplored territories as they’re all traveling to Melbourne, Australia! The Hummingbird Ranch was a fleeting opportunity, open for just one night! Jenn expresses, “I sense it, I’m on the verge of falling in love, my soulmate is here, I’m going to propose, I’ll be the one making the decision.” She intends to propose.

Cheers to Jenn!
