The Bachelor Recap: WifeVision

Occasionally, time seems to crawl at an almost unbearable pace. Time can be divided into vast periods and significant geological changes. There are instances in our past that make the length of time seem overwhelmingly long – for example, the intriguing fact on a Snapple cap stating, “Cleopatra was living not so far from the moon landing as she was from the construction of the Pyramids of Giza!” Time has a way of moving subtly and invisibly. However, when you recall … it’s then that …

It seems there’s some confusion about the hometowns. When exactly are we discussing these? What context are you referring to when mentioning hometowns? Are you perhaps talking about the Final Four? If so, I believe you meant that we’re eliminating teams down to the Final Four.

This current episode appears to be the most crucial and personal of the entire season, yet I’m completely clueless about any of these women. Remarkably, someone who hasn’t had a one-on-one date is progressing to hometown visits. Frankly, it’s surprising! And just like Carolina, I’m not finding this experience enjoyable at the moment!

Prior to the episode’s start, I was struggling to recall heartfelt moments or palpable chemistry between Grant and his female contestants. It seems this season lacks warmth, perhaps due to Grant’s frequent compliments about each woman being beautiful and seeing them as a potential spouse, but not necessarily “his” wife. Instead, it feels more like he’s scanning for “Wife Potential,” imagining each woman in a wedding veil. In essence, his vision appears to be more of a “Wife Detector.”

The other factor that makes this season feel frosty is the absence of any declarations of love. I couldn’t recollect a single instance where someone said, “I’m falling for you.” This isn’t a school dance; it’s The Bachelor!

Let’s get into it.

In the upcoming week, there will be two individual dates and one group date. Zoe is hopeful but unfortunately, it’s not her who gets chosen for the one-on-one dates; instead, it’s Juliana. To everyone’s surprise, even though she hasn’t had a one-on-one date yet, Juliana receives the Princess Experience (shopping, princess costume, and awkward dancing). Given this, many are speculating that Juliana might make it to the final two contestants. It seems that we needed to wait until reaching a European city with a castle setting for the Princess Date to occur. Madrid, on the other hand, is more focused on its plazas. As Grant and Juliana depart for their helicopter ride, the other contestants look on enviously. Carolina expresses her feelings by saying, “I’m not jealous; they’re going to have so much fun,” while Alexe retorts, “You went on a private jet, sweetheart.” It appears that Carolina may have forgotten some of her experiences on this reality show and does not view them as positive. “I’m at such a disadvantage because I kissed Grant in Las Vegas. That’s bad luck!

It’s not only because Juliana is receiving the “Princess Date” that I believe she’ll make it to the final two, but also due to the palpable chemistry between her and Grant. He clearly has feelings for her, as shown when he responds to her saying, “I’m a princess today!” with, “You’re a princess always.” In essence, he’s smitten with her.

Grant even compares their situation to “The Fresh Prince,” suggesting a metaphorical royal connection. However, it should be noted that The Fresh Prince never wore a kilt, as Grant seems to imply.

The highlight of the date arrives when Juliana dons a gown reminiscent of the iconic Marilyn Monroe song, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” As she graces the final ball and greets Grant with “Hi, boyfriend,” he presents her with a tennis necklace.

So, was this date themed around “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” a castle setting, or “Bridgerton”? The theme remains unclear. Nevertheless, their bond is undeniable and growing stronger.

In the evening part of their date, they discovered more about each other, particularly about Juliana. She admitted that she’s not always as cheerful and carefree as she appears. She shared that her family has faced challenges due to a relative battling addiction. This resonated with Grant, as he too has experienced similar struggles. It seems Grant is inclined to take on a caring role, almost like a savior, in relationships. However, it’s worth noting that this “Captain Save-a-Ho” phrase may be seen as outdated or problematic.

Grant appears to embody certain archetypes of children of addicts. His desire for solitude could be likened to the “Lost Child,” and his aspirations for building a perfect family might resemble the “Superhero.” These traits, coupled with his vision of marrying and rewriting his past, are quite significant.

I’d like to know more about Grant’s personal efforts towards self-improvement and healing, such as therapy or attending meetings for family members affected by addiction. His plans seem heavily centered on marriage and family, which is a lot, especially since hometown visits are coming up next week. Strangely, there are no rose ceremonies on any of the dates, but Juliana will definitely be going on a Hometown date. I’m confident in predicting this.

The sequence unfolds as we approach the group date: Sarafiena, Alexe, Carolina, Dina, and Zoe are the participants. Apologies for including Zoe, it wasn’t an enjoyable task. We’re off to the Highland Fair, with a mix of small activities planned before a grand finale competition. However, Carolina becomes overwhelmed by her emotions, causing the other women to express their frustration.

During a tarot reading session, when asked about her sign, Carolina replies flippantly, “Why don’t you guess?” Ouch! You gotta pack up and leave. Your behavior is disrespectful towards the locals. Meanwhile, the others emphasize their positive attitudes, but they seem to be stuck in a distress mode.

The misconception lies in thinking this is a “Best Attitude Competition,” whereas it’s truly about securing time with the lead. Carolina retreats to a solitary spot by the loch, and Grant intervenes to check on her. Essentially, she’s playing the damsel in distress, which isn’t helping her cause.

Grant expresses concern over Carolina’s sarcastic tone when he approaches her, wishing for a more sincere response. A man who stops what he’s doing to ask about your feelings? That’s every girl’s dream! However, Carolina struggles with the realization that she had an early one-on-one date and doubts relationships will progress further.

In terms of the season’s timeline, it wasn’t that premature. Both parties yearn for each other to acknowledge their feelings more openly, but they can’t outright say they want to leave. Carolina also can’t bear the thought of admitting defeat and being sent home. Eventually, Grant suggests moving past this issue, and they agree to enjoy the remainder of the day. However, the romantic rain returns, forcing a cancellation of the rest of the activities.

In my humble opinion, as a movie critic, it seems that a united front has been formed among the female characters, spearheaded by Dina, who feels deceived by her defense of Carolina earlier. They’re persistently presenting Carolina as intentionally causing issues, but I’m not convinced this is the case.

From where I stand, there might be several factors at play that are reminiscent of typical reality TV dynamics. For instance, Carolina might have thought she had the lead’s affection secured from the start of the season, which could have affected her interactions with other women who are equally attractive. Moreover, it appears that she may not excel in forming bonds with these women given their shared hotness level.

Lastly, and perhaps most significantly, it seems like Carolina is being rewarded by the lead for her actions – unbeknownst to her, they’re working against the other women because her tactics are resonating with Grant. The irony here is that the same thing could be done by the other women!

Instead of discussing hometowns, which seems utterly irrational and nonsensical, Grant isolates the women to chat. However, it’s as if Sarafiena is saying, “I genuinely like him,” while we discuss hometowns. Folks, let’s all try to keep a cool head here.

At some point, Dina confronts Carolina and alleges that she disregards other women and lacks accountability. However, in the TV series “Law & Order: Bachelor,” such claims are misguided. Carolina is under no compulsion to respect others or be held accountable, and if someone gets tricked, it’s their own fault for supporting the season’s antagonist. The other women expect Carolina to be grateful and not hog Grant’s attention excessively. Carolina’s comment about the rain left me chuckling, but I don’t find her humor particularly appealing, to be honest. You all seem overly agitated. Towards the end of the evening, Dina asks Carolina how her night was, and Carolina replies, “Given the circumstances, as well as it could have gone,” which infuriates everyone. What should she say instead? Nothing! Dina confides in Grant that Carolina is self-centered and ungrateful. Typically, I dislike this tactic, but Dina’s excessive flattery is amusing. “You’re intelligent, you’re insightful, you make wise decisions.” Is she writing him a college recommendation letter? The night concludes with Grant facing a difficult decision.

I’m excited for my one-on-one date with Litia today! We’ve got the “Experience Edinburgh like the locals” date, and it’s making me fall in love with the city even more. It’s adorable!

However, I have to admit that this date isn’t really winning me over when it comes to Litia. She has a soft, childlike voice, and there’s this peculiar habit she has of softly completing my sentences while I’m speaking. It reminds me of a mom helping her kid with their school presentation.

During our time in the pub, I mentioned, “I remember what you were wearing that night,” and she softly replied, “gray dress.” It was like watching a parent prompting their child during a science fair presentation. I’m not sure if she’s trying to echo what I’m saying or following along, but it feels a bit strange and silly.

The main focus of their date was the evening segment, where they discussed what Litia’s hometown might be like. It’s worth noting that she identifies as Mormon, having been raised in the Mormon faith. She appears to be cautious about emphasizing the significance of her religious beliefs, while Grant seems to be trying to understand how his emotional scars align with hers. Now, if you’re Mormon, more power to you! However, it’s important to remember that the Mormon Church is a complex institution. I follow the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and this faith only recently began accepting Black members (in 1978, to be exact). It’s not just about being conservative.

Grant mentions that he prays and would want his children raised with religion, but his primary conversation with Litia revolves around his lonely childhood. He often ate dinner alone in his room, and the concept of rewriting one’s past resurfaces, causing him to tear up as he talks about his strained relationship with his father and his longing for a family. Litia seems thrilled at the prospect of providing him with that sense of belonging.

I couldn’t help but feel uneasy when Grant told himself to stop crying, and Litia comforted him by saying, “You’re perfect. You’re enough. You’re perfect.” This echoes Heather Gay from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, who mentioned that perfection is a significant tenet in the Mormon Church. Guys! Guys! Guys! What’s going on?! I just remembered this factoid!

In simpler terms, Grant expresses that when two individuals are prepared, extraordinary events can unfold. And look at that! His enthusiasm is palpable! They move in sync to a tune about discovering someone who cherishes them, and Litia delivers a relaxed expression of her affection. Her reaction is as casual as asking, “Do you want to watch The Wild Robot?” followed by, “Yeah, I might.

The moment for the rose ceremony has arrived, and there’s no social gathering beforehand! We’re diving straight into it! Carolina whispers to Dina, who asks, “Is this actually happening?” after they’ve all taken their positions. Carolina expresses regret, and they exchange ‘I love you’, finding the situation strange. They decide to pass on Grant, ensuring their continuance in Paradise if they don’t end up with him.

It’s time for the roses: Lita, Julie, Dinah, and Zoe each receive a rose. What a strange Final Four! What decisions were made? For everyone to be sent home, Alexa, Sarafina, and Carolina all claimed they were taken aback; something must have gone awry. Either it was the pacing or when they all saw Grant tell everyone, “You’re beautiful, and you are wife-material.” We’ll likely find out soon enough. See you next week if Juliana’s family has a problem with Grant kissing their daughter! Exciting times ahead!
