In the eagerly awaited A24 biopic about Anthony Bourdain, it has been confirmed that Dominic Sessa will portray a young Bourdain. Dominic made his film debut as Tully in 2023’s “The Holdovers,” and Matt Johnson, director of “Blackberry,” will helm the project. The biopic focuses on a pivotal yet unexplored moment in Bourdain’s life – his time working and living in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 1976. This experience significantly influenced Bourdain, as he wouldn’t enroll in culinary school for another two years. In other words, this biopic can be seen as a superhero origin story. Upon viewing young Bourdain, it’s evident that Sessa is an ideal fit for the role. Furthermore, between this film and “The Holdovers,” the 22-year-old actor is establishing himself in films set in 1970s Massachusetts.
Sessa isn’t the initial actor to take on the role of the host from Parts Unknown and No Reservations on screen; Bradley Cooper played a character resembling him (called Jack Bourdain) in the brief-lived sitcom adaptation of Kitchen Confidential in 2005. Starting next month, Tony will commence filming and will work alongside Antonio Banderas in an unspecified role. We’ll cheerfully exclaim “Yes, chef!” to that casting news.
