I’m really excited about this part of the Reconstruction storyline! You eventually get to collect cats – seriously, cats – from all over the place. It would be really helpful to have an item in the game that shows you where all the cats are and how many are left to collect. But it’s not obvious how to actually use this item once you have it, and if you’re here, you’re likely wondering the same thing.

You can’t use the Cat Needle just yet. You need to get the Magic Compass first, which unlocks its functionality. You’ll earn the Magic Compass as you progress through the story in the Age of Magic, a little later in the game. It’s a bit strange that the game lets you find the Cat Needle before you have the Magic Compass, since you can’t use it until you do.

Once you obtain the Cat Needle and Magic Compass, cat icons will show up on both your map and mini-map. You’ll also see a counter above each dungeon indicating how many cats are still hidden there, similar to the counter for unopened treasure chests. This makes finding all the remaining cats much easier. Keep in mind that some cats won’t appear until you’ve completed certain quests or advanced the story, so don’t worry if you don’t see an icon for every cat right away – more will become available as you play.
