It all started with Free Guy in 2021, which was a surprisingly fun and original action-comedy. Then came the massive Deadpool & Wolverine, which, of course, blew past a billion dollars at the box office. Honestly, though, I think their second collaboration is the most overlooked gem of the three.
Released in 2022, The Adam Project is a Netflix film starring Ryan Reynolds as a time-traveling hero who joins forces with his younger self to prevent a catastrophic future. Although it’s a strong science fiction movie, it hasn’t received as much attention as films like Free Guy and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. Look, movies like Free Guy and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine are definitely more visually exciting, but honestly, they don’t hit you in the feels the way The Adam Project does. This 2022 Netflix film uses its action and sci-fi as a backdrop for a really touching story about family. It’s easily one of Shawn Levy’s best, and it’s interesting to realize he was also quietly laying the groundwork for another big project he has planned for 2027!
