The Accountant 2’s Audience Score Smashes Original With a Jaw-Dropping 93% Approval!

Nine years following its initial release in 2016, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal returned to their characters, Christian Wolff and Braxton, respectively, for the second installment of The Accountant. The follow-up made its global debut at the SXSW Festival in early March and is now available for viewing in cinemas.

As a passionate cinephile, I must say that my initial take on “The Accountant” was quite favorable, as it launched with a whopping 86% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, as more reviews poured in, its score has shifted slightly, now standing at 76%. It’s earned the “Certified Fresh” badge, which is no small feat. Interestingly, audience reviews have just been released, and it seems that anticipation for “The Accountant 2” is high, with an impressive 93% score from the audience!

In comparison to the first movie, The Accountant 2 garnered much higher ratings from the viewers. While the original film was well-received by the audience but received mixed reviews from critics, The Accountant 2 was met with overwhelming enthusiasm by audiences, scoring an impressive 93%. However, it’s worth noting that the initial movie only had a mediocre rating of 53% from critics.

Just like the critics, the audience highly commended the movie, acknowledging it as engaging, action-packed, and boasting a compelling tale of brotherhood.

In the second installment, we find Christian Wolff once more, a brilliant accountant with autism and a shady past, working for a criminal network. His estranged sibling Brax, known for his lethal capabilities, is also part of the story. The plot thickens when they are drawn into investigating the murder of an old friend, who leaves behind a mysterious clue meant for Wolff. This revelation uncovers a dangerous conspiracy they must now untangle.

In the follow-up film, distribution rights belong to Amazon MGM Studios, with Gavin O’Connor once again taking the director’s chair. Additionally, J.K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson return to their characters, Raymond King and Marybeth Medina respectively.

The Accountant 2’s Reception Is Encouraging for Its Box Office Run

Following its debut at the SXSW Festival, “The Accountant 2” had been on an impressive trajectory. The original movie was a box office hit, earning $152.9 million globally against a production budget of just $40 million. It also added an additional $20.7 million from DVD and Blu-ray sales (via ). Yet, the second film faces a tougher challenge.

The second installment of “The Accountant” is projected to start with earnings between $20 million and $25 million within the domestic market. This implies that it should generate at least double this amount to turn a profit, given its budget has been doubled to $80 million.

In contrast, the upcoming sequel isn’t predicted to claim the top spot, with Ryan Coogler’s horror film Sinners projected to earn around $30 million in the U.S. during its second weekend, continuing to lead the box office charts. The initial release also saw a similar start, earning approximately $24.7 million in its opening three days. However, while the first film’s overall box office performance was successful, it also had a more modest budget compared to its earnings.

The Accountant 2 is currently out in theaters.
