In the movie, Thompson portrayed a young Irish boy traveling in third class, who sadly perished with his family on board.
The young actor landed a part in the movie “Titanic” after his mom signed him up with a talent agency and had to decide between two opportunities for her son. Instead of appearing in an advertisement or accepting a minor role in a James Cameron production, she chose the latter. This decision not only secured a salary but also earned her son a $30,000 bonus due to the film’s success, which they put towards his education. Moreover, he was eligible for yearly royalties from “Titanic,” and these payments continue to be deposited into his account even today.
Due to his speaking part in the film, Thompson – who currently works as a digital marketing director at a Utah ski resort – has been entitled to royalties from “Titanic”. According to Business Insider, these payments range from $100 to $250 annually, although immediately following the movie’s release, they reached up to several thousand dollars. Additionally, Thompson could expect comparable amounts after the DVD and Blu-ray releases, as well as theatrical re-releases; however, over time these payments have dwindled, leaving him with just a few hundred dollars today.
However, Reece Thompson admitted that while the amounts aren’t large, he remains content with receiving payment for his role in the legendary Titanic movie.
