Rodan’s unexpected reappearance in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could set up an exciting battle in the Monsterverse soon. After being introduced in Godzilla: King of the Monsters seven years ago, Rodan showed up in the last scene of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Lee Shaw noticed him resting on a volcano in Thailand.

After their attempt to defeat Kong with Titanus X failed, Kentaro Randa and Isabel Simmons are now focused on Rodan. They originally planned to use a rift on Skull Island to change the past, and it appears Rodan lives near another similar rift. Season 3 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will likely see them trying to access this new rift.

This hints at a major role for Rodan in the upcoming season, potentially similar to how prominent Titan X was in the second season of the Apple TV+ show. It seems Monarch, Lee Shaw, and Isabel Simmons’ new team will all focus on Rodan, and its location might become the site of future conflicts between the Titans.

Fans have often talked about a specific monster battle happening, and it could finally become a reality.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 3 Can Feature A Kong Vs. Rodan Fight

As a huge Monsterverse fan, I’ve always been fascinated by how the Titans stack up against each other – who’s the strongest, who would win in a fight, that sort of thing. One matchup people have talked about for ages is Kong versus Rodan. It’s a shame Rodan didn’t get involved in either Godzilla vs. Kong or Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and we never actually saw that fight happen. But after the way season 2 of the show ended, it genuinely feels like a Kong vs. Rodan battle could actually happen, and I’m really excited about the possibility!

While there haven’t been any clear preparations for a fight yet, both Kong and Rodan are now part of the show’s storyline – Kong appeared at the end of season one, and Rodan was introduced in the final scene of season two. If Monarch: Legacy of Monsters doesn’t move away from Kong now that the Titan X plot is finished, a battle between these two monsters could finally happen.

The Monsterverse’s current storyline creates some limitations for how a fight between its creatures could happen. Specifically, the series hasn’t reached the point where Kong leaves Skull Island, meaning any battle must occur there. It’s plausible Rodan could reach Skull Island because the volcano where he nests likely contains a dimensional rift – this is supported by the fact that scientists are searching for him there.

Considering Skull Island was described as a central hub, or “Grand Central Station,” for the Hollow Earth, it’s reasonable to think Rodan could end up there if he travels underground. In fact, bringing Rodan to this Hollow Earth location might even be part of someone’s plan. Kentaro and Isabel would likely need Rodan out of the way – either removed or defeated – if they want to control any dimensional rift within the volcano.

Would Rodan Have A Chance At Beating Kong?

Kong is considered one of the most powerful creatures in the Monsterverse, making him the likely winner in a fight against Rodan if they were to clash in a future season. However, Rodan is a formidable opponent as well. Director Michael Dougherty, who worked on King of the Monsters, has described Rodan as a powerful, flying force – essentially a “winged A-bomb” with power comparable to Godzilla. This means Rodan could definitely give Kong a serious challenge.

Unlike Godzilla, Kong would be at a significant disadvantage against a flying Titan. Godzilla can attack airborne enemies with his atomic breath, but Kong lacks any ranged weapons. He’d have to rely on getting close to the Titan, but with a fast flier like Rodan, Kong would struggle to defend against a direct attack.

A fight between Rodan and Kong in the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could be one of the most exciting battles we’ve seen in the Monsterverse so far.
