‘That ’90s Show’ Canceled After Two Seasons on Netflix, Kurtwood Smith Says: ‘We Will Shop the Show’

As a film critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen shows come and go, some leaving lasting impressions while others fade into obscurity. The ’90s Show, a sequel to the iconic ’70s Show, was one that had the potential to be a beloved addition to the television landscape.

The ’90s are officially over.

Announced through a post on Instagram last Thursday evening, the sequel series of ‘That ’70s Show’, titled ‘That ’90s Show’, has been terminated following its run on Netflix, according to franchise actor Kurtwood Smith.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve been fielding questions about Season 3 and I regret to break the news: Netflix won’t be renewing our beloved series. But let me seize this moment to express my gratitude to all the fans who stood by us through thick and thin, from remote corners of the world to social media interactions. It’s been a joy to breathe life into Grandpa Red for you. This show was not just another project; it had a heart that beat with the passion of an exceptional cast, writers, directors, producers, and crew. We were fortunate enough to entertain you for two glorious seasons. In the words of Grandpa Red himself, we won’t be “dumbasses.” We will seek other opportunities to continue the story because good grandparents never give up on their kids – they strive hard to ensure a successful graduation from high school.

In a new series entitled “That ’90s Show”, several characters from the original “That ’70s Show” have reappeared: Debra Jo Rupp as Kitty Forman, Laura Prepon as Donna Pinciotti, Topher Grace as Eric Forman, Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso, Wilmer Valderrama as Fez, and Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart. This upcoming show, set two decades later, focuses on Leia Forman, the daughter of Donna and Eric, who is spending her summer with her grandparents.

In 2023, the initial 10-episode season of the show debuted on Netflix, introducing itself as the first part of the series. By August 2024, Season 2, which had grown to 16 episodes split between Parts 2 and 3, concluded its run.
