According to the School of Rock’s blackboard, this is “heavy rock.” After a 20-year absence, Jack Black made his comeback as host on Saturday Night Live. The show was so impressive that even Ms. Mullins would have been excited. However, Black was hesitant and considered quitting during the monologue due to feeling too nervous and it being too long since his last episode. Fortunately, Maddie Rice, SNL’s talented guitarist, stepped in to help by playing the opening chords of Aerosmith’s “Back in the Saddle.” Black was reinvigorated, exclaiming that the song gave him the strength to host again. The rest of the show resembled a Dewey Finn fantasy, complete with a trip to the risers, a somersault, a marching band, and more than half of the Glengarry Glen Ross leading men watching with adoring expressions. While we’re here, could someone please send the “Free Fallin'” sketch to Jeff Lynne? We’d like to know if they met the bass quota. It turns out that the promised land was closer than we thought, and it came with a beard.
