As a veteran gamer who has spent countless hours trying to clear lines in Tetris since its humble beginnings, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Tetris Forever! This collection promises to be a treasure trove for fans like me, with 15 games from the franchise’s past, including the legendary Famicom version and the elusive Tetris Battle Gaiden.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the popular puzzle game, Digital Eclipse has announced Tetris Forever – a fresh compilation due to release on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later in this year. This exciting news was shared during the August 2024 edition of Nintendo Direct.
Tetris Forever offers 15 games from its historical series, including the 1988 Famicom version of Tetris, Tetris Battle Gaiden (previously unavailable in the West), and Super Bombliss. The collection’s website also mentions a replica of the original Electronika 60 computer’s Tetris. Furthermore, expect a fresh multiplayer mode called Tetris Time Warp, where players compete against each other in the puzzle game as the gameplay transitions between different versions of Tetris across the years.
Delving into the rich history of Tetris, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master Series, which offers an incredible collection of over an hour’s worth of documentary videos. These captivating videos will take us on a journey inside the fascinating relationship between Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov and The Tetris Company founder Henk Rogers.
Not only does the affection for Tetris continue, but Nintendo also mentioned that the NES version of Tetris is coming to Nintendo Switch Online this winter for subscribers. Furthermore, a Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event has been planned for this winter too.
